Objective:
By the end of this lesson students will:
 Have reviewed what has happened in the novel so far
 Finish reading/rereading “Mr Jenkins and His Son” as a class and debrief what has
happened up until this point
o Made predictions about what will happen next
o Identified rising action and climax of the story (learned terminology)
 Read “The Triumph” as a class
 Have summarized chapters during a class discussion and discussed what they
learned in the last several chapters
 Potentially been introduced to Map It activity
 If there is extra time, have completed their Witches Word Searches

Personalization/Differentiation:
 Have a modified activity booklet for students with LDs, IPPs
 Engage all students in classroom discussion so they can share their ideas and have a
chance to speak in front of their peers
 Have the teacher explain task, come up with ideas as a class, and then work
independently (ex. I do, We do, You do)

Lesson Plan Sequence:

 Hand out novels and recap what has happened so far (last 5-10 minutes
three/four chapters)

 Ask students to follow along as I read aloud “Mr Jenkins 25 minutes


and His Son” and “The Triumph”
 Discuss what happened in the new chapters 5-10 minutes
o What happened in “The Mouse-Burglar?”
o How would your parents have reacted if you were
turned into mice? Would they be like Grandmamma
or Mr and Mrs Jenkins?
o What do you think of the plan? Do you have any
ideas for a better plan?
o What do you think is going to happen to Bruno?

If there is time: 5-10 minutes


 Introduce Map It activity and discuss plot diagrams/story
mapping with the class
 Have students complete their Witches Word Searches
