Course Description

A comprehensive study of the concepts, processes, and strategies used in the

development and management of global supply chains. Supply-chain management
(SCM) is a systems approach to managing the entire flow of information, materials, and
services from raw material suppliers through factories and warehouses to the final end-
customer. Specific topics include global supply chain management, procurement,
electronic commerce, information technologies, and logistics activities. SCM represents
a philosophy of doing business that stresses processes and integration. This course will
be taught through the use of textbook materials, homework, and SAP.

Course Objectives

1. Introduce the general concepts of supply chain management.

2. Understand the processes involved in supply chain management.
3. Understand how to develop and manage efficient and effective global supply
chains.
4. Understand how technology and information systems work as enablers to provide
leverage in gaining and maintaining competitive advantage in the marketplace.
This is especially true of SAP which is highlighted in this course.
5. To develop quantitative and qualitative problem solving skills.
Course Requirements

1. Attendance is mandatory for each class session. The OMIS attendance policy
(http://mba.niu.edu/departments/omis/bachelor-of-science/attendance-
policy.shtml) will be in effect. If you miss more than three classes, your grade
will be reduced by at least one letter grade!

2. The exams may consist of several questions based on a case study, short answer,
essay, and/or multiple-choice.

3. There will be four (4) team homework assignments assigned throughout the
semester. Late homework will not be accepted and there will be no make-ups!

4. There will be a peer evaluation of the quality of your effort and results for the
group homework assignments.

5. There will also be four (4) unannounced quizzes during the semester and no
make-up quizzes will be given.

Course Grading

The final grade in this course will be based on the student’s performance on the exams,
homework, and the SAP assignments. The relative weights assigned to each of the course
components are as follows:

Exams (4 @ 100 points each) 400

SAP Assignments 100
Homework (4 @ 20 points each) 80
Quizzes (4 @ 5 points each) 20
Total points 600

The course grade will be based on the total percentage earned by the student throughout
the semester. The grade breakdown is as follows:
