Master of Education in Technology

Project Overview for EDU 525

The project is an independent study, culminating activity that is completed by students in both degree options. The
project topic must be developed and presented to the supervising faculty member for approval prior to the initiation of any
project activities. Topics must reflect a new learning experience for the student. Students will not be permitted to redo a
previous activity or a version of a previous activity; students will also not be permitted to complete a project that includes
tasks that they already do as part of their employment requirements. The project is intended to be a personal and
professional growth activity.

The student will develop a total faculty training course related to their selected topic. The project should provide a six to
ten hour training experience that is project based. The following materials will be developed as part of the project:
 A course objective and rationale
 Audio screen casts and/or video of presentations
 Model examples to be produced by the trainees
 Assessment rubric
 Survey that trainees would complete at the end of your presentation
 All information linked to Wikispace and also copied to a CD

The project is to be submitted to the supervising faculty member as the individual components are completed. The
faculty member will then suggest revisions of the artifacts as needed. The student will revise and resubmit components until
the work represents an acceptable level of professionalism. The entire project should be submitted a week prior to the
completion of the course for faculty review to allow time for any additional required revisions. The final version of the
project will be copied to a CD and submitted to the Graduate Education Program Director.

Directions for Your Project

Welcome to your EDU 525 Independent Study Project. I want to help you further your knowledge, skill level and
application of technology in your classroom. In order to do this effectively, especially if you wish to communicate solely via
e-mail, I must have some background information about your areas of expertise, as well as what you wish to accomplish in
this study. Please complete the following form and e-mail back to me PRIOR TO WEEK 1 of the semester you wish to
perform this project with me.

Your project should be focused on training colleagues in an area of technology. Perhaps it is educating them on how to
use a particular software program for regular record keeping or showing them how they can use a web element or piece of
technology to integrate into their classrooms. Again, as stated above, it should provide 6-10 hours of training in one area of
technology. You must provide:

1. Objective and Rationale statements” explaining purpose of training, why training is necessary, and how it will
benefit peers and ultimately students (3 paragraphs)
2. Instructional elements: audio screen cast with “how to” step by step instructions using JING or WINK software
3. Model Projects: finished product that can be used as a model for the colleagues to mimic when learning
technology
4. Assessments: way of assessing if the colleagues met the objectives of the lessons; a way to be held accountable
to district
5. Survey: creating a survey for peers to critique your performance as a presenter
Project Proposals

Please complete the following information with 2 different project proposals in mind. This will save time when we
discuss which options are best to meet your objectives for this course. Please complete this and submit via e-mail to the
project instructor prior to week 1 of the semester in which you are completing the project course.
