(CNN) — Former Uber driver Jason Dalton pleaded guilty Monday to killing six people during a 2016

shooting spree in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Prosecutors said they would agree to the plea if Dalton took responsibility for his actions and
pleaded guilty to all counts against him. The move came during jury selection.

Attorney Eusebio Solis said that against his advice, Dalton decided to plead guilty to spare his family
and the families of the victims the grief of reliving what occurred, CNN affiliate WOOD reported.

"I've wanted to do this for quite a while," Dalton told the court when asked if he understood what
he was pleading to and whether he was doing so voluntarily, according to CNN affiliate WWMT-TV.

Dalton pleaded guilty to six counts of murder, two counts of assault with intent to commit murder
and eight felony firearm charges, WWMT reported.

Police said Dalton committed the shootings between picking up fares as an Uber driver in the
southwestern Michigan city on February 20, 2016.

Carruthers told the court she and the others were walking through the parking lot when a silver SUV
nearly struck them. The man inside the vehicle asked her if she was "Macy" or "Maisie."

When she started to describe the moment the man approached her, Dalton interrupted her.

"No, they gave bags, these old people, they have these old black bags, that are called -- they're
black, they're black bags that people drive around and people look at them," Dalton said. "It gets
real bad, it's time people look and that's when they tell the people it's time to get to temple."

It's unclear to what Dalton was referring. Carruthers began to cry and the judge asked Dalton to
speak quietly to his attorney for the rest of the proceedings.

Moments later, Dalton attempted to stand. Court officers quickly restrained him and then dragged
him out of the courtroom. On the stand, Carruthers screamed and was surrounded by her legal team
and supporters. They escorted her out of the courtroom.

Throughout the rest of the hearing, Dalton remained in a holding cell with two police escorts,
following the hearing by video conference.

Dalton was accused of driving from one location to the next, shooting people seemingly at random
at three places. Dalton also apparently picked up multiple passengers over the day as an Uber driver.

He told investigators the Uber app made him "like a puppet" and that it would "take over your
whole body."
Poor weather conditions over Indonesia's Sunda Strait had frustrated spacecraft that
view the Earth in the same type of light as our eyes.

But the team at Planet has managed to find windows in the cloud.

Pictures from its Dove and SkySat platforms show the extent of the volcanic cone's
failure.

It is easier to appreciate now how the island has been reshaped.

What was once a crater at the summit of a 340m-high edifice has been completely
broken open to form a small bay.

Indonesia's disaster agency says more than two-thirds of Anak Krakatau's volume
(150-170 million cubic metres) is missing. Much of it is assumed to have slipped into
the sea in the colossal landslide that produced the tsunami.

Earth observation company Planet, which is based in San Francisco, operates one
of the world's largest satellite constellations.

The big network maximises the chances of seeing the ground when cloud clears
above a target.

Planet's small Dove spacecraft capture details on the ground larger than 3m - what is
termed medium resolution; while its SkySat platforms have a high-resolution
capability, capturing details larger than 72cm.

SkySat was responsible for the picture at the top of this page, taken on Wednesday
(2 January).

The satellite pictures acquired immediately after the disaster came from radar
spacecraft, and gave the first hints that Anak Krakatau had collapsed.

Radar instruments can pierce cloud but they return a very different type of view to
optical satellites, and need a particular skill to interpret.

It's now thought some 430 people died along the coastlines of Java and Sumatra
when the tsunami hit.

Thousands more remain displaced.

Philippines' regulator rejects Indonesia's Go-Jek's application for
Manila ride-hailing service

MANILA: The Philippines' transport regulator has rejected the application of Indonesia's Go-
Jek to launch a ride-hailing service in the country due to foreign ownership issues, a
government official said on Wednesday (Jan 9).
The move puts a wrench in Go-Jek's plan to corner a bigger share of the Southeast Asian
ride-hailing market, currently dominated by rival Singapore-based Grab.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) denied the petition of
Go-Jek's subsidiary to become the newest ride-hailing service in the Southeast Asian nation,
the regulator's chairman, Martin Delgra, told Reuters.

Velox Technology Philippines Inc, a unit of Go-Jek, "did not meet the citizenship
requirement and the application was not verified in accordance with our rules," Delgra said.

The Philippine constitution limits foreign ownership to 40 per cent for certain industries.

"If they want to appeal. That is their option," Delgra said, adding Grab remains the
Philippines' largest ride-hailing firm.

Velox is fully owned by Go-Jek, according to the regulator, while Grab, through its local unit
MyTaxi.PH Inc., complies with the foreign ownership limits.

A spokesman for Go-Jek, which counts Tencent Holdings Ltd and JD.com Inc among its
investors, said it continues "to engage positively with the LTFRB and other government
agencies, as we seek to provide a much needed transport solution for the people of the
Philippines".

Started in 2011 in Jakarta, Go-Jek has evolved from a ride-hailing service to a one-stop app
through which its customers can make online payments and order everything from food,
groceries to massages.

Last year, Go-Jek said it would invest US$500 million to enter Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand
and the Philippines, after Uber Technologies Inc struck a deal to sell its Southeast Asian
operations to Grab.

The Indonesian firm kicked off a trial launch in parts of Singapore in November and is
raising billions of dollars and investing aggressively as more of Southeast Asia's 640 million
consumers use smartphones to shop, commute and make payments.

seorang pejabat pemerintah, Rabu (9 Jan).

"Jika mereka ingin mengajukan banding. Itu adalah pilihan mereka," kata Delgra, seraya
menambahkan Grab tetap menjadi firma balap naik terbesar di Filipina.

Velox sepenuhnya dimiliki oleh Go-Jek, menurut regulator, sementara Grab, melalui unit
lokalnya MyTaxi.PH Inc., mematuhi batasan kepemilikan asing.
