alternatives. In how many ways may a student fill in the answers if they answer each
question? Give your answer in standard form. [2]

2. Mr John owns 4 pairs of pants, 7 shirts, and 3 sweaters. In how many ways may he
choose 2 of the pairs of pants, 3 of the shirts, and 1 of the sweaters to pack for a trip? [2]

3. On Mr Samuel’s desk, he has 5 different Economics books and 7 different Mathematics


books. In how many ways can he choose 4 books, if he choose more Mathematics books
than Economic books? [3]

4. The digits of the number 12256789 can be arranged to give many 8-digit numbers. Find
how many different 8-digit number can be made if
i) there are no restrictions on the order of the digits, [2]
ii) the odd digits are next to each other, [2]
iii) these 8-digit number are even. [2]
5. a) Find the number of ways in which all thirteen letters of the word
INTERNATIONAL can be arranged if
i) the are no retrictions, [2]
ii) the Ns must all be together. [2]
b) How many different selections of five letters from the thirteen letters of the
word INTERNATIONAL contains no Ns and two As? [3]

6. There are 12 Zombies, 8 of whom are male, including Mr and Mrs Sheldon. How
many ways can I choose 6 if
i) equal number of male and female zombies, [2]
ii) I must have Mr or Mrs Sheldon but not both, [2]
iii) I must have both Mr and Mrs Sheldon and more number of men than women. [3]

7. The four members of the Muller family are having their picture taken with the three
members of the Dixie family. In how many ways can they have their picture taken if
i) the Muller family and Dixie family stand together, [2]
ii) only the Muller family stand together, [2]
iii) the Muller and the Dixies alternate, [2]
iv) Mr and Mrs Muller stand at either end separately. [2]

8. a) How many integers, greater than 999 but not greater than 4000, can be formed [2]
with the digits 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, if repetition of digits is allowed?

b) In how many rearrangements of the word AMAZED, is the letter E positioned


in between the 2 As. (Not necessarily flanked) [3]
