HCA Healthcare/HealthONE’s Swedish Medical Center Hosts Burn Survivor

Reunion

Swedish Medical Center serves the south Denver metro area as a Level I trauma facility with a
dedicated burn and reconstructive center.

Englewood, CO, February 09, 2019 --(PR.com)-- HCA Healthcare/HealthONE's Swedish Medical
Center, a level I trauma center and the Rocky Mountain region's primary trauma referral center, hosted a
powerful and uplifting reunion for burn survivors in celebration of National Burn Awareness Week.
Patients gathered to reunite with their doctors, nurses, and first responders in this first annual event.

The reunion featured speakers Benson Pulikkottil, MD, Lily Daniali, MD, and motivational speaker Chris
Griffin. The theme, “from surviving to thriving,” set an inspirational tone throughout the gathering as
patients shared their stories of trauma, grief, and encouragement.

“It's important that we do something for our survivors so that they know there is a community here to
give support and strengthen their journey,” said Dr. Benson Pulikkottil, Medical Director of Burn and
Reconstructive Centers of Colorado at Swedish Medical Center.

At the conclusion of the reunion, the burn survivors were invited to attend the Burn Survivor Support
Group, a monthly support group offered through the hospital, “The recovery of a burn survivor and
family really starts when they are discharged. There is not just a physical healing component, but
emotional as well,” said Lindsay DeSantis, Burn Quality Manager at Swedish Medical Center. “This
support system allows for them to share in their experiences and grow together as a community of
survivors.”

The Burn and Reconstructive Centers of Colorado at Swedish Medical Center sees both adult and
pediatric patients from a multi-state region. The comprehensive center offers a dedicated inpatient critical
care unit, two operating rooms, and an outpatient clinic. Over 4,000 burn patients were treated last year
alone.
