Weight Reaching Packer Baker Oil Tools

„ Slack-off at surface doesn’t all reach the packer due to

friction and buckling.

„ Even though all weight doesn’t reach the packer, the

tubing is buckled up inside the casing and acts as a
source of stored energy or force.

„ Weight reaching packer is critical when the weight is

required at the packer, e.g., to energize elements of a
retrievable compression set packer.

Assumptions
Baker Oil Tools

What's taken for granted...

„ Initial pressures at the packer in the
tubing and the annulus are equal to each
other.

„ Tubing is flanged up (no hydraulic

forces are calculated due to tubing ID
area at surface).

„ Program assumes a seal bore packer:

[ F = (Ap-Ai)∆Pi - (Ap-Ao) ∆Po]

„ Program assumes user is smarter than

the program.
