MILESTONE ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT


1st Semester, AY 2009 – 2010
SUMMARY

THRUST 1 – Improving program viability and sustainability

1. High employment rate of graduates in the School of Business continue to be maintained at the
80% level i.e. 80% of graduates are employed within 3 months after their graduation.
Additionally, 90% of alumni are currently employed or involved in entrepreneurial activities.

2. Program curriculum and subject syllabi have been submitted to review and enrichment at the
start of the semester.

3. Marketing activities have enabled the School of Business Administration to minimize the
effect of competition and prevailing market trends on the enrollment levels of its program. !st
semester enrollment clocked at 134 students. This is 2.8% lower than the enrollment figure of
the 1st semester of the previous academic year. It must be noted however that 63% of SBA’s
enrollees enjoy some form of scholarship both from SMCL and other outside organizations.

4. The School of Business Administration has maintained its move to lower the number of
uncollectible accounts. As of this writing, uncollectible accounts number 10 students for a
total of P 85,013.00. Efforts are being done to collect this amount from the students.

5. 2 Short-term courses have been given the greenlight by TESDA namely Bookeeping and
Entrepreneurship. These programs are currently embedded within the regular curriculum of
the School of Business Administration. Modules are being prepared to enable these courses to
be offered as a separate program. Additionally, 5 accounting teachers have successfully been
certified asNCIII Bookkeepers and are now eligible to teach Bookkeeping.

THRUST 2 – Raising learning outcome

1. Social Entrepreneurship has been introduced in the program of the School of Business
Administration. Feasibility studies are more problem-based and action oriented thus allowing
students to use tools such as Environmental Scanning, SWOT and Metrics in
solving actual problems that are of concern to the community.

2. A number of the faculty of the School of Business Administration have begun to adopt
extensively to the use of the Internet and email as a supplementary teaching tool. They have
been advised to include the activities and the particular websites used in their syllabus.

3. Peer teaching in accountancy through the SBA Tutors’ Bureau has been continued during the
semester. 20 freshmen having problems with the subject were served. Marked improvements
in their grades have been noted.

THRUST 3 – Revitalizing the English Program

1. Although English has always been the medium of instruction in the School of Business
Administration, no formal evaluation of the effect of the use of this medium in the
development of the “glocal competitiveness” of students has been carried out.

THRUST 4 – Strengthening the Entrepreneurship Program

1. Social Entrepreneurship has been introduced in the program of the School of Business
Administration. Topics for the feasibility studies assigned to the Fourth Year were selected
based on the following criteria (1) development of products which can be adapted by
barangays as livelihood programs; (2) development of action plans to solve current
problems being experienced by communities with their chosen industry. Currently, the
following topics are being developed:

1.1 The Headware (Caps) Industry – Brgy. Platero, Binan Laguna


1.2 The Footwear Industry - Brgy. Malaban, Binan. Laguna
1.3 Rice Cakes (Puto) Manufacturing – Brgy. San Vicente, Binan. Laguna
1.4 Rice Puffs (Ampaw) Production - Brgy. Canlalay, Binan, Laguna
1.5 Dried Fish Production - Santa Rosa, Laguna
1.1.6 Biobags (Biodegradable substitute to plactic bags)
1.1.7 Hydroponics Farming

2. Entrepreneurial Projects – In the Marketing 1 subject, 2nd Year B.A. Students were assigned
to develop marketing and business plans for the following products/services. These
products/services will be the start of the development of their Entrepreneurial Projects for the
next three years.

2.1 Green Briquettes (smokeless solid fuel)


2.2 “Signature” Paper Bags
2.3 Customizeable Fashion Bags
2.4 Statement Key/cell chains
2.5 Brownies
2.6 Decorative Candles

THRUST 5 - Assuring Quality of Operations Through Accreditation

1. Programs under the School of Business Administration are compliant to Level 3 Accreditation
Standards.

2. Facilities and maintenance of equipment are still at 85% accomplishment levels due to certain
deficiencies that still remain unattended to in spite of repeated requests and notification.

THRUST 6 – Strengthening Extension Services

1, The School of Business Administration collaborated with three organizations this semester in
the areas of public service, livelihood and information dissemination:

1.1 The Binan Business Club


1.1.1 The SBA was a partner in the holding of the First Binan Business and Trade
Expo held at the Pavillon Mall, May 14 – 16, 2009.
1.1.2 The SBA assisted in the relief operations of the Club for the people affected
by Typhoon Ondoy ( 325 families and approximately 1,000 lives were
touched).

1.2 PICPA – Binan - The SBA played host to the BIR Information Dissimination
Forum held at the STH for finance officers, practicing accountants and
Other interested party.

1.3 The Binan Bankers Club – the SBA assisted the club in gathering data on business
activity prevailing within the municipality which would be the basis for
the development of the Clubs strategic plan for the coming year.
THRUST 7 – Continously improving Student Personnel Service

1. Manual for the Student Integrated Apprenticeship Program (SIAP) being developed for
implementation next semester.

2. Manual for the development of Business Plans being written. For implementation next
semester.

THRUST 8 – Institutionalizing Values Formation

1. 100% of the syllabi have been revised to include the inculcation of Michaelean Values and
Competencies.

THRUST 9 - Strengthening Environmental Education for sustainable growth.

1. 2 Social Entrepreneurship projects being developed by the SBA are attuned to the concerns of
environmental education.

1.1. Biobag – the development of a biodegradable substitute for plastic shopping bags .

1.2 Hydroponics Farming – a soilless farming technique that is environmentally friendly.

THRUST 10 – Strengthening research culture

1. Currently, only 1 person or 10% of the faculty are currently involved in actual research,

2. All faculty members have been assigned as advisers of students in the development of the
Entrpreneurial Projects mentioned above.

THRUST 11 – Strengthening networking and linkages.

1. Plans are underway to strengthen linkages with companies and organization through the
signing of MOA;s . Four organizations are earmarked for this formalization process which is
set to be achieved by the second semester:

1.1 The Binan Business Club


1.2 PICPA Binan
1.3 The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
1.4 The Binan Bankers Club
