CHAPTER 2
2.1 INTRODUCTION
BPCL, with an equity base of Rs. 723.08 Crore, is a leading player in the Petroleum
Sector in the country. BPCL currently has Refineries at Mumbai and Kochi with a
capacity of 12 Million Metric Tonnes per Annum (MMTPA) and 9.5 MMTPA
respectively for refining crude oil. BPC's subsidiary at Numaligarh has a capacity of
3 MMTPA.
Also, Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd. (BORL) a joint venture of BPCL, a state-of-art,
grass root refinery with a capacity of 6 MMTPA at Bina, Dist. Sagar, Madhya
Pradesh is also a part of BPCL. This Refinery is on stream and completely
operational from 2011.
Ennore Installation will get its inputs through ocean tanker from Mumbai and KR
refinery.
The total Petroleum storage tankage capacity under construction is 1,17,035 KL.
we propose to put up additional tankage of 2 nos for Ethanol and 2 nos of BIO
diesel tanks due to increase in the percentage of addition of Ethanol with MS and
proposed addition of Bio Diesel with HSD as per the directive of Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of India and 2 nos ATF tank as a part shifting
from the Tondiarpoet location.
2.2.2 RESOURCES
Generally for any industry to perform viably the availability of certain basic
essential requirements is necessary. The essential requirements include
1. Raw material
2. Fuel
3. Transport
4. Power
5. Water
6. Land
7. Man power etc.
In the context of proposed Storage capacity at BPCL all the above basic
requirements are essentially available as it is an existing industry.
2.3 NEED FOR THE PROJECT AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE COUNTRY AND/REGION:
Due to increase in the percentage of addition of Ethanol with MS and proposed addition of
Bio Diesel with HSD as per the directive of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of
India.
CHAPTER 3
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Due to increase in the percentage of addition of Ethanol with MS and proposed addition of
Bio Diesel with HSD as per the directive of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt of
India.
Ennore Installation will be under Survey No: 1556 B Vallur village and 354/1
Athipattu village, near Ennore, Tamilnadu.

1. What type of mitigative measures has been incorporated for control &
prevention of water pollution due to effluent discharge?
The proposed project is expansion of tankage and other allied facilities.
Domestic wastewater generated from project will be treated in septic tank
and soak pit. And no effluent is generated from the project. Therefore no
major impact is envisaged.
Proposed Receipt: The products will be received to our installation through tank
lorry.
Storage: The storage tanks for 23476 KL are used for storage of different
products. The details of tanks with sizes is detailed in table.
Dispatch: The products received will be stored in respective tanks and will be
added with MS (Petrol) and HSD (Diesel) as per the directive of Ministry, MOPNG
and dispatched to retail outlets through tank lorries.

3.6 WATER
The requirement of water for the construction purpose will be supplied throu
authorized suppliers.
3.7 POWER
Assessment of the micro and macro meteorology is important from the standpoint
of understanding the nature and extent of air pollution in the study area. The
climatic condition of the area may be classified as moderately or seasonally dry,
tropical or temperate savanna climate with four seasons in a year. Winter is
critical for air pollution build-up because of frequent calm conditions with
temperature inversions resulting in poor atmospheric mixing, natural ventilation
and high emission loads during evening traffic peaks.
Season Period
Summer April to July
Monsoon August to December
Post monsoon December to January
Winter January to March
3.9.1 Temperature
The hottest day of 2013 was May 23, with a high temperature of 41°C. For
reference, on that day the average high temperature is 38°C and the high
temperature exceeds 41°C only one day in ten. The hottest month of 2013 was
May with an average daily high temperature of 37°C.
The coldest day of 2013 was December 16, with a low temperature of 19°C. For
reference, on that day the average low temperature is 22°C and the low
temperature drops below 20°C only one day in ten. The coldest month of 2013 was
January with an average daily low temperature of 21°C.
Ennore generally experience high humidity. The average maximum values of the
relative humidity remain high throughout the year (above 90%) The average
minimum monthly values are between 25% in May and 48 % in November.
3.9.3 Rainfall
More than 60% of the annual rainfall takes place during the NE monsoon ( October
to December). The average monthly rainfall in the period 1972 – 1983 varied from
1mm in march / April to 416 mm in November. The annual rainfall shows
considerable variation over the ears, from 550mm in 1982 to 1522 mm in 1975.
The maximum and the minimum atmospheric pressures are recorded during all
seasons. In the summer season, the mean maximum and minimum pressure values
are observed to be 904 mb in the month of May and 918 mb in the month of June
respectively. During monsoon season, the maximum pressure is 913 mb (July) and
minimum 903 (August) mb. The maximum pressure during the post-monsoon season
is observed to be 914 mb in November and minimum pressure is 905 mb in the
month of October. During the winter season the minimum atmospheric pressure is
907 mb in December and the maximum is 919 mb in the month of January. The
values are presented in Table
3.9.5 Wind
The site is coastal exposed to south west and north east monsoon. The wind is
predominantly SW to SE during SW monsoon from June to September and form NE
to NW during NE monsoon from October to January.
