5.12”, 10,000 PSI COMBI BOP

1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The combi BOP can be supplied as either a "triple" or a "dual" body configuration. Both are
designed to accept shear/seal combination rams (top ram set), the "triple" with independent slip
rams and pipe rams (middle and bottom ram sets), and the "dual" with combination pipe/slip rams
(bottom ram set).

The shear/seal rams offer the advantage that the pipe can be cut and the rams closed as blind,
without the need to move the pipe. After the pipe is cut, continued travel of the shear blades move
the cut portion up and out of the way of the seal.

The pipe/slip rams, when used in a "dual" body, offer the advantage of reduced height and weight
over the "triple" BOP.

2.0 FEATURES

Integral Equalizing Valves

Equalizing valve is integral to the body, no exposed plumbing or extra seals to leak. Replaceable
valve seat.

Well Pressure Isolated

Separate seals for hydraulic and well pressure with a vent to prevent well pressure from entering
the hydraulic system.

Hydraulic Operation
Hydraulic system rated to 3,000 psi.

Easy Maintenance
No special handling tools required, the BOP breaks down in small manageable units. One man can
easily handle the entire cleaning and maintenance job. No difficult threads to align.

No Welds
Side port flange integral to BOP body.

Ram Position Indicators

Indicator rods give a reliable indication of the ram position.

Manual Locks
Manual locking stems are non-rising, therefore, there are no threads exposed to become dirty or
bent.

www.nov.com
TECH-1226-MAN
Rev / B
P a g e | 5 of 26
Cutting
Shear/seal combi rams cut the coil tubing leaving a clean end for circulating fluids or easy fishing.

Slips
Slip rams have replaceable inserts to renew the teeth without the need to replace the entire ram.
Slips are manufactured with an interrupted tooth profile which gives minimum damaged to tubing
and therefore better fatigue life.

Materials Certificates

H2S Service
Materials in contact with pressured well fluids conform to NACE specification MR-01-75 for H2S
Service. Full traceability fo-r the above materials is maintained on file for a minimum of five years. A
complete data file with materials certs, and test chart is furnished with each tool.

Arctic Service "B" Suffix

In addition to the NACE specification above meet the API 6A requirements with charpy impacts at
-50 F.

Sl 289 & NPD Service, "L" suffix

In addition to the NACE and API requirements, additional material charpy impact and NDE tests are
carried out. A Design Review, Certificate of Compliance, by DNV, Lloyds or Bureau Veritas is
furnished with the Data Book.

All BOPs are hydrostatic and function tested per API Spec 6A.

3.0 OPERATION

The following instructions assume that the reader is educated and experienced in high pressure
well work and H2S hazards. The following instructions relate only to the specific features of the
Texas Oil Tools Combi Blowout Preventor.

3.1 Be sure that the tool has been fully serviced by a competent Technician. Do not assume that a
serviceable tool on the last job will be serviceable for the next. The rubber o-rings, front, rear and
shear seals must be inspected. Slip teeth must be inspected to ensure that they are clean and
sharp.

3.2 Check all flange and union seals and the sealing surfaces for damage that might impair
sealing. Repair or replace as necessary.

3.3 Test all hydraulic functions, open and close each set of rams.

3.4 Check the operation of the manual locks. Note: The manual locks must be fully open to permit
the rams to fully open.

3.5 Pressure test the complete hook-up, BOP and all connections including the stripper/packer
before starting the job.

3.6 Close all Equalizing valves.

3.7 Shear/seal blades for H2S Service: as noted in the NACE specification MR-01-75 "High
strength and high hardness steels are required for ram shear blades to shear drill pipe during
emergency conditions. However, the user shall be advised that these materials are highly
susceptible to SSC (SulphideCracking)".

Since during workover operations the blades may be exposed to H2S, the shear blades are made
with a soft core and hard case. The hard outer case will be susceptible to cracking, however the
softer core will not be as likely to crack in an H2S environment. The case hardened blades will not
last as long as through hardened blades, but we feel that this is the best compromise for
H2S service.

3.8 Slips have hardened slip Ieeth in replacement inserts. Worn slips can be easily and
economically replaced.

4.0 MINOR DISASSEMBLY, RAM CHANGE

Reference Drawing No. 9324-1525 or 9324-1527

(Change or Inspect Rams, Actuators Intact)

Caution: The BOP is heavy. Be sure that the lifting and handling equipment can safely handle this
load. ALWAYS assume that something may break. NEVER have any part of your body under the
suspended tool. The BOP may be serviced either standing up or laying on its back. In either case
be sure that the support is adequate and accounts for the shift in weight as the bonnet
assemblies are removed.

On the "triple" BOP, lower and middle ram sets are capable of being inverted if required. It should
never be required to invert the slip rams as the regular set-up is capable of holding the same
downward and upward pull, but there may be special applications requiring an inverted pipe ram to
be installed into either ram sets, therefore both 5" actuators have this facility.

Note: If inverted rams are installed in either of the above, the corresponding Equalizing valve MUST
be converted as per drawing 9327-0120. (Nut item no. 59 and plug item no. 60 must be ordered
separately).

4.1 Start with all rams in the open position. This will make it easier to remove the rams from the
bore of the BOP, and with the rams retracted into the bonnet it will not accidentally fall off as you
handle the sub-assembly.

4.2 Loosen all cap screws (8) and cap nuts (43) on each bonnet approximately 1/4 turn. Remove
the cap nuts and install the ram change rods (41). Remove the cap screws.

4.3 With the ram change rods in place to support the bonnet/actuator assembly and ram, pull the
sub-assembly away from the body (1). Take Carel DO NOT USE A PRY BAR as it will damage the
bonnet or BOP body sealing surface.

4.4 Rotate the manual lock right-hand to move the ram out of the bonnet, note that this will
displace the hydraulic oil from the close side of the actuator. Take care that the ram does not slide

off the guide. Rotate the manual lock left-hand to return it to the open position, note this does not
pull the piston back but will permit the hydraulic pressure to retract the ram when necessary.

4.5 Remove ram from guide by lifting upwards, taking care not to damage the seal surface on the
bonnet or body.

5.0 DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY

handle (21) and retainer rings (24). Remove hydraulic cap (29). Caution I Do not attempt to remove
the hydraulic cap by turning the handwheel. The torque will force the keys (28) out against the
threads in the cylinder and can damage the threads. As the hydraulic cap is removed, the indicator
rod (20) may remain attached to the piston. Take care that you do not bend the indicator or damage
the piston or cylinder. Remove the indicator rod.

5.6.4 Remove the keys (28) and push the stem assembly out of the hydraulic cap. The seal (26)
can now be removed, take care not to scratch the sealing surface. To remove the indicator seal

the elbow and tighten the nut (32).

Note the correct direction of all seals.

5.7.3 Install the sleeve nut (19), bearing stack (27) and seal (26) onto the stem (23). Note the seal
lips face toward the bearing stack. Install the stem sub-assembly into the hydraulic cap (25). Install
o-ring (18). Install indicator seal (17) with seal lips toward you and seal retainer (16). Align the
grooves in sleeve nut (19) with the drilled holes in thehydraulic cap, install keys (28). Note : grease
in the drilled holes will help keep the keys in place during assembly. Install the indicator rod
(20}, leaving it at near full extension.

5.7.4 Tip the sub-assembly slightly to one side to engage the indicator into the groove in the piston.
Be sure that it is in place. Tighten the hydraulic cap. If the indicator is not engaged into the groove
on the piston, the first time the actuator is opened it will ruin the piston by cutting a notch in the end
of the piston.

5.9.1 Install a-ring (38) on the Equalizing valve bonnet (34). Install the stem (35) into the bonnet,
rotating it to the full open position. Install the spacer (37). Note : bevelled side in first Install two
seals (39),
smooth side in, lip side out Use the Equalizing valve seat for a tool to push the seals into the bonnet

5.9.2 Install two seals (39), into the body. When both seals are in place install the seat (36).

5.9.3 Check to ensure that the stem (35) is in the fully opened position, install the bonnet/stem
assembly. NOTE LEFT-HAND THREAD. CLOSE THE EQUALIZING VALVE.

5.10 INVERTING RAMS

Complete steps 4.1 through 4.5 then start the following sequence.

5.10.1 Unscrew Guide Stud (51) from lower threaded hole of Bonnet and rotate Stud & Ram Guide
(5) 180°. Screw stud into upper threaded hole in Bonnet

5.10.2 With the Ram inverted complete procedure as per steps 5.1 thru 5.3

Care must be taken when changing-out inverted rams as rams will fall off ram guide when bonnet is
pulled back on change rods if not restrained from doing so.

Note: There is no external indication when rams are inverted therefore we would suggest a label
(as minimum) should be attached to inverted ram set actuators.

When using inverted rams the Equalizing valve should be modified, as it is a type of needle valve
that will hold pressure best from one direction only. Refer to drawing 9327-0120 for modification.
Replace seal (36) with the Nut (59) and Plug (60). Note: the lips of the seals are assembled to face
towards the Nut. The Stem (35) must be in fully open position to permit correct seating of the
Bonnet (34).

7.0 IN-FIELD TESTING

The following is quoted from API Spec 6A, Fourteenth, Edition.

Underlining added by Texas Oil Tools for clarification.

"APPENDIX 'F' RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR FIELD HYDROSTATIC TESTING OF

WELLHEAD AND DRILL THROUGH EQUIPMENT

F.3 Test fluids. Normally cold water should be used for testin9, however a nonflammable fluid may
be used if it is not harmful to any of the resilient seals. Drilling fluids maybe used for testing
blowout preventor and drill through equipment, but clear cold water is preferred.

F.4 Test Pressure. Pressure should not exceed the rated working pressure of the specified
assembly. open or closed, and shall not excE!ed the values given in Section 1.6 for the appropriate
connection. Test pressure should be regulated to the lowest working pressure of any end outlet or
connection, flanged or threaded, as discussed in Para 1.2.4 and 1.6.3 except where the
following limitations apply.

1. Test pressure should in no case exceed the tabulated {API Bulletin 5C2: Performance Properties
of Casing, Tubing and Drill Pipe) burst or collapse pressure of the exposed pipe reduced by user's
safety factor.

2. Test pressure should not exceed the manufacturers rated WORKING pressure of seals exposed
to test" - end of API quette.

8.0 RECOMMENDED INSPECTION & MAINTENANCE

8.1 AFTER EACH JOB

8.1.1 Inspect Ram Rubber Seals. Normal wear will be a moderate amount of extrusion
downstream of the pressured side.

Replace

When usage has resulted in any noticeable loss of rubber, or if the bond between the rubber and
metal plates is separating. Note : Field testing only to the maximum anticipated well pressure will
extend the
life of the seals.

8.1.2 Inspect Bonnet O-Ring/Seals.

Any extrusion indicates improper tightening of the bonnet nuts. Extrusion all around the o-ring
indicates even, but inadequate tightening of the bonnet nuts. Extrusion over only a part of the o-ring
indicates uneven tightening of the bonnet nuts.

8.2 AFTER 20 JOBS OR 12 MONTHS MAXIMUM

(severe local conditions may require more frequent inspection intervals).

8.2.1 Completely disassemble the Equalizing valve, replace all seals and worn parts.

8.2.2 Completely disassemble and inspect the hydraulic: actuator assembly. Replace all seals and
worn parts.

8.2.3 Always store and operate the BOP with the EQUALIZING VALVE CLOSED.
