LaMagna, Maria. “5 Reasons Americans Are Obese - That Have Nothing to Do

with Food.” MarketWatch, MarketWatch, 15 Nov. 2015, www.marketwatch.com/story/5-

reasons-americans-are-obese-that-have-nothing-to-do-with-food-2015-11-13.

In the article, 5 reasons Americans are obese, LaMagna shares some remarkable

reasoning on why the American population of obesity, in adults and children, is growing

higher throughout the years, due to 5 main reasons [Identifies the question in a

explanation]. LaMagna uses the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to

collect accurate data of the amount of obese people in America and to help explain why

that is the case. [Sources used to help gain evidence]. Data shows that nearly 40% adults

are obese and 17% of the children are obese in America, showing a huge growth of obese

adults from 32% to 40% in a 10 year time period [Information and data of the amount of

obese people]. LaMagnas 5 reasons why americans are obese in America will help my

capstone by providing me the reasons why this is happening to help me figure out ways

doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1353/hpu.2012.0124.

In the article, The healthy weight collaborative, the authors talk about healthy

ways and qualities to promote healthy weight for everyone that is overweight [Identifies

of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)

and the National Initiative for Children's Healthcare Quality (NICHQ) to show more

accurate readings for their evidence [Identifies resources used]. They showed data of how

the obesity population grew within very few years at a rapid speed showing more than

two thirds of the adults are obese and one third of the children are obese in America alone

[resources and evidences]. This article is beneficial because the three examples of

stratigis they demonstrated and used can also be applied and used by anyone to help

In the article, Abraham explains the meaning of obese and overweight people by
explaining and showing a scale of healthy weight classes, that is measured by one's
height and age to get accurate readings [Identifies the question and explains the
meaning]. Abraham used all her data she collected from The U.S. Department of
Agriculture to get as accurate information as possible [Identifies resources used]. The
Average American ate almost 20% more calories in a 17 year time period along with the
rise of consumption of grain to 45% during the same time showing the more consumption
the average American made causing major weight gains. [Explains research that relates to
thesis]. People often get confused between diet and nutrition either consuming too much
or too little causing an imbalance of people's weights. Fast food is another of the main
causes of obesity because people are taking advantage of the fact it’s made fast, made
cheap, and the fact it taste good but what they don’t know is all the calories they are
eating and the items they intake are not even close to being healthy. [Conclusion of the
articles explanation of obesity]
