General

Procedures

a) Beginning of School Day

1. Attendance Check- When students come into the classroom they will place
collateral in their numbered pockets. By scanning over the pockets to see
which ones are empty will tell what students are either absent or tardy.

2. Previously Absent Students- There will be a bin/folder called “While you
were out” that will have every assignment with explanation in there. It will
be dated so the students will know the exact date we did what. If students
need clarification of an assignment when they were absent it is up to them to
set up time either before school, during lunchtime, or after school to meet
with me.

3. Tardy Students- I am a very understandable human being, and tardiness does
happen. There is a one-strike policy on being tardy, and everyone will have
one chance per semester to use however they would like.

b) Out-of-room policies

1. There will be a sign out paper at the door where the students will be asked to
sign out with their name, date, time, and where they are going with assigned
class pass

c) Materials and equipment

1. What to bring to class- Students should always come to class with a pencil
and paper.

2. Pencil sharpener- Students should use the pencil sharpener during ‘passing
periods’, but if it is an emergency in which they have no other writing tool
they may use it when the teacher is not talking.

3. Student contact with teacher’s desk, storage, and other materials- Students
should respect all of the teacher’s belongings as if they were theirs. Students
will not get in the teachers storage or desk unless permitted by her/him to
do so. Materials will be provided in stations at the students group centers so
there is no need to be lurking around for materials.

d) Ending the Class Day/Session-

1. Students will always have 3 minutes to wrap up whatever they are doing and
get the room back to what it looked like before they walked in.

e) Seat-Work and Instruction Procedures

1. Student Attention- Students will show they are participating by giving the
teacher their eyes.

2. Student participation- Students will give their 100% effort during this
process. They will show they are participating by actively progressing
through the work and asking questions when needed.

3. Talk among students- Students will discuss certain topics with their peers,
and in engage in meaningful conversations that are lead by critical thinking
questions that they create. Side conversations should be held to a minimum
during seatwork.

4. Obtaining help- Students should ask their entire group of 3 before raising a
hand to ask for the teacher. The teacher will be walking around throughout
different groups, so it is important that the students are patient with their
question and respectful to the teacher’s time.

5. Out of seat – There should be no reason for students to get out of their seat
during this time unless for an emergency bathroom break.

6. When seatwork has been completed- When seat work has been completed
students may work on homework from this class, and if that is finished they
must work on work from another class. If they are then complete with all that
work they may go to the class library and find a book to read that appeals to
them. Just because you are finished does not mean the whole class is so
please respect that rest of the students by staying quiet! J

f) Student Group Work

1. Use of materials and supplies- Supplies will be in the middle of each group in
a 3-tier organizer. It is that group’s responsibility to treat those supplies as if
they were theirs.

2. Assignment of students to groups- Students are already assigned to groups
daily, but the groups may change according to the project. The desks are
already in-group form so the switch will be simple. Students may get to
choose their groups, assigned according to gender, or randomly selected by
the computer. There will be different ways the teacher assigns groups.

3. Student participation and behavior- There will be 100% cooperation and
respect during group work. Students will be given different jobs based off of
their desk number, and it will switch everyday. Person #1 will be the scribe,
person #2 will be the spokesperson, person #3 will be the supply collector
and in charge of making sure the groups stays on task, and person #4 will be
the one discussing their ideas about what person #1 will be writing. These
jobs will change according to the different projects. Behavior should be more
respectful than other as we are working with peers. There will be no negative
talk and belittling others ideas. We will respect everyone in our despite our
different opinions. There is ZERO tolerance for disrespectful behavior in
groups.

g) Miscellaneous

1. Signals- Different times call for different signals and I believe that mixing it
up every now and then is fun for the students. The first one is creating a
word that is specialized to that class that. It can be whatever word they so
choose, like power, hello, awesomeness, etc. Once this word is said it means it
is time to wrap up the conversations with three more seconds. The second
one is the call and respond method where I will say, “Alright, STOP,” and the
students will reply together saying, “Collaborate and listen!” This call and
respond will change at the quarter to keep it catchy for the students.

2. Behavior- Behavior is covered in the rules.

3. Special Equipment- Students should keep their hands to their selves when
dealing with special equipment in the classroom unless permitted by the
adult in the classroom.

4. Fire and disaster drills- Students will follow the rules and guidelines to the
school policies for these instances. We will line up as quickly and orderly as
possibly in single file by the door. Do not make any side trips. I will assign a
fire chief who will take the fire drill packet and lead the line outside. We will
all walk in unison to our designated spot.

5. Homework turn in- Students will turn in their homework in the assigned tray
with their period number on it with their name in the right hand corner.
Homework without a name cannot be accepted.

6. Cell Phones- If I see or hear your phone during while a teacher is talking it
will automatically result to a lunch detention and a phone call home.

7. Food/Drinks- You may drink bottled water, but if a spill happens please clean
up after yourself. Other food may be eaten, but not during teacher or student
presentations.

8. Cheating- This is absolutely unacceptable and will result as a referral. Our
school as well as this classroom has a zero tolerance for cheating. Students
will earn a zero on the assignment or test that they are working on as well
with no opportunity to re-do it.

9. Language- Offensive or derogatory language is a no go in this classroom. We
are here to provide a safe classroom environment for students. If you do not
have something nice to say, please do not say it! If a student is put down by
another, the student will be asked to tell that person 3 put ups on the spot in
front of the class.

10. Turning in Work on time- All assignments should be turned in on time. 10%
of a grade deduction will be taken off of assignments that are turned in late.

• Students will have to spend their lunch period in my classroom to talk about
why the issue has reoccurred twice.
