II. Course Details

a. Course Description

Because of the ever increasing size and complexities of modern decision

making, there arises a need for every manager to make a sound and timely
decision which requires collecting, processing and analysis of data on the
facts expressed in quantitative forms. Thus, there is hardly field in the
modern world where statistical tools are not applicable. The application of
statistics pervades virtually every area of activity, research and development,
manpower planning, and accounting.

b. Course Objectives

At the end of this course students will be able to:

 Familiarize with the statistical techniques which are helpful in

managerial and administrative decision making problems.

 Deal with application side rather than the theoretical aspects.

 Work towards decision making areas and careers using statistical tools.

 Acquire a wider perspective in how to express decisions in

quantitative forms

 Have a clear understanding of statistical tools.

IV. Teaching Methods and Organization

The course will be delivered in a combination of lectures, discussions,

exercises, group works, class work outs, solving problems and cases that
attach the theory with the real world. Additional support will be given based
on the progress and interest of the students.

Students should work out problems, worksheets and read textbooks and
notes before the lecture .Their participation in the class is what is expected
out of them. Attendance records will be taken at all times.

V. Assessment

The mode of evaluation will contain a continuous assessment method:

 Three quizzes (45%)

 Individual assignment (15%)

 Final exam (40%)

VI. Grading

Students will be graded using criteria referenced and fixed scale grading .Letter
grades are assigned as:

A=[85,100],A- =[80,85),B+=[75,80),B=[65,75),B-
=[61.25,65),C+=[57.5,61.25),C=[50,57.5),C-

VII. Responsibilities of Students

Students supposed to attend classes, participate in class discussion, perform their

own assignments by themselves, perform group assignments and share
responsibilities and activities in group, and refer library sources of the course.
