Overview 1
It is important to correctly install the Doppler Current Meter in order for the equipment to stably
demonstrate its performance as well as to be maintained and repaired easily. Install it with care
according to the following instructions.

1) Install the LCD Monitor Unit where it is easily to be seen in the wheelhouse. Install the
Keyboard where it is easily to be operated nearby the LCD Monitor Unit.

2) Install the Signal Processor on the well-ventilated location as much as possible, because it
generates heat. Secure enough room on the both sides, considering the maintenance.

3) The Transducer utilizes the ultrasonic wave in water. The ultrasonic wave has
characteristics to reflect at where the air bubble exists and not to be able to reach the deep
depth as a result. If that is the case, the measurement becomes impossible. Therefore,
choose the appropriate location on ship bottom where the air bubble does not stay during the
sailing, and install the Transducer on that location.

4) A 25-m cable is attached to the transducer. The surplus cable is cut and make it become short.
However, it cuts so that cable length may not be set to less than 15 m.
There is a possibility that a current cannot be measured in the case below 15 m.
In addition, separate from other cables of all the as much as possible, and lay it.
If other cables are adjoined, there is a possibility that a current cannot be measured.

Noise Prevention to Radio Equipment 4

4.1 Shield of Equipment

4.2 Cable between Equipment
4.3 Installation location of Equipment
4.4 Earth of Equipment
●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

A burst transmission circuit and various pulse circuits are used in the current meter.
The harmonic component element of pulse is radiated from the cable between equipment again
as an electromagnetic radiation, and it unites with the receiving antenna and the other cable of
the radio communication equipment and the obstruction is given as a receiver noise.
A general effective method is shown as follows as such an obstruction measures.

4.1 Shield of Equipment

Various means to aim at the leakage decrease of the obstruction wave have been taken to each
composition equipment of the current meter.
The gasket for an electromagnetic shield is pasted on the back side of the lid of the signal
processor. This gasket obtains enough electrically contact of the case and the lid. Therefore,
the lid of the device must tighten up a screw surely.

4.2 Cable between Equipment

The cable between equipment must use a specified cable.
Ground the transducer cable by the specified connection method in special clamping metal.
Use the cable with the shield. And, ground the shield part to the signal processor.

4.3 Installation Location of Equipment

The shield is not complete though the equipment is shielded enough. Some obstruction waves
leak from the LCD monitor, the keyboard, and the signal processor. Do not equip the
neighborhood of the radio communication equipment, the reception antennas, and the reception
cables with this machine.
Moreover, some obstruction waves leak from the RGB cable and power cable of LCD monitor,
the signal cable of the keyboard, and the transducer cable. Do not set it up in parallel to these
cables and the reception cables of the radio communication equipment.

4.4 Earth of Eqipment

Ground the LCD monitor and the signal processor to the nearest hull earth point by the beeline.
Do not share with the earth of the radio communication equipment. Connect the earth with one
place.
The level of the obstruction to the radio communication equipment changes considerably by the
structure, the installing equipment, and the construction situation of the hull. Confirm the
thing that is the best situation with all equipment made to work.

5.1 Inspection after Installation

Check whether all work was done appropriately according to the instruction after equipment is
completed. Especially, about the connection of the DC power supply and the transducer cable,
check surely for the mistake. Confirm whether there is the water leak from the stuffing tube in
the ship bottom.

Never transmit when ships are in the dry dock. The element in transducer
might be damaged. Check after removing one fuses of the transmission
part, when it is necessary to energize and to confirm it.

5.2 Checking Operation

Read the Instruction manual well before checking operation, when the inspection after
installation ends. Confirm normal operation by operating all function after confirming the thing
that the voltage of ship's main is in the tolerance

5.4 Correcting Ship Speed
5.4.1 TD Angle Correction
Set the correction value of the installation angle of transducer.
Execute it in the sea area where the ground speed without the wind and the current can be measured.
When right and left speed always displays it in a specific direction of the starboard or the portside though the
ship is going straight, it is thought that the installation of transducer is not parallel to keel line.
In this case, calculate the error angle from display speed, and set it as a correction value.

[Correction example] When transducer is installed as shown in the figure below, the speed display always
indicates the direction of the starboard.

5.4.2 Ship Speed Correction

The correction of the a absolute of Ship speed is executed.
Execute it in the sea area where the BT speed can be measured.
Calculate the speed error of BT referring to GPS. And, set the error value.

[Correction example] BT speed is lower than the GPS speed.

Error = ( GPS speed - BT speed ) ÷ BT speed

= ( 15.0 - 14.5 ) ÷ 14.5 × 100%
= +3.4%
GPS: 15.0kn GPS: 15.0kn

BT: 14.5kn +3.4% BT: 15.0kn
