2018 NATIONAL READING MONTH

Reading is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. Success
in this process is measured as reading comprehension. Reading is a means for language
acquisition, communication, and sharing information and ideas.
One of the Schools Division of Lipa City’s thrusts is to increase the reading awareness of
learners and to make every child a competent reader. In line with this, Sto. Toribio Elementary
School joins the celebration of 2018 National Reading Month with the theme Pagbasa:Susi sa
Magandang Kinabukasan. With compliance to the National Kick-of activity, the school head act
as a mystery reader of a children’s Filipino story book during the school’s flag ceremony. To
continue the celebration, the school conducted a parade of characters wherein the pupils will
wear the costume of their favorite characters in the movies, stories or books that they read. After
the parade, a simple pragram was held wherein there were storytelling by grade level. At exactly
9:00 in the morning, each grade level conducted the simultaneous reading. Each grade level read
stories that focuses more on Filipino values.
It is very important that the children have the passion to read because reading is the key
to learning. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative activity for children, which opens
up all kinds of imaginary worlds.
