Here we are enlisting competitor’s activities that took place in the month of March 

" Tata Motors has sold 20% in Telcon to Hitachi for Rs. 1159 crore, Hitachi own 60% stake 
in Telcon. The Japanese firm moves from being a junior partner to majority owner. 
 
" Doosan has postponed their green field project to build a factory again. They have not 
even acquired any land yet from Tamil Nadu government. This is mainly because of their 
financial  problem  and  poor  performance  in  sales.  Doosan  has  deferred  its  plan  for  a 
manufacturing plant near Chennai by a year. They will now focus more on import and 
sale of its excavator. 
 
" Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment Selects DSSI, LLC to Provide Source‐to‐Pay 
Services in Support of MRO Purchasing. 
DSSI, LLC, a recognized leader in Procurement Services, announced that, for the next 
three years, it will provide comprehensive Source‐to‐Pay services to Doosan Infracore 
Construction Equipment, a leader in the engineering, manufacturing, and marketing of 
compact and heavy construction equipment, attachments, portable power and 
articulated dump trucks. 

" Globally,  JCB  &  VOLVO  have  entered  in  to  an  agreement  for  joint  engineering  & 
manufacturing  of  Skid  Steer  Loader  and  Compact  Tracked  Loader  products.  However, 
Sales  &  Marketing  will  be  through  respective  brands  and  through  respective  global 
dealer network.

" Mahindra & Mahindra have got the ARAI certification for their Back Hoe Loader finally 
and are going for a nationwide launch from May‐June 2010. They are also in the process 
of establishing team on PAN India basis. 
 
" Mr. Brahmananda Panday, who was heading Sany Industries India, has joined Mahindra 
& Mahindra Engineering Company as Vice President Operations & Marketing and he is 
located at Pune. 
 
" Mahindra & Mahindra will be launching their 20T & 7T excavators by July onwards. They 
had made the prototypes eight month back and said to have conducted the trials on the 
same  for  over  six  months.  Their  collaboration  in  bringing  these  products  remains 
undisclosed. 
 
" Komatsu to exhibit hybrid excavator. 
Komatsu's stand will feature its PC200‐8 hybrid tracked excavator, the world's first 
production hybrid construction machine. The unit is currently available in parts of Asia 
and North America, although no European launch date has yet been set ‐ no doubt the 
interest gauged at Bauma will be instructive for the company. 
The Hybrid PC200LC‐8 uses an electric swing motor, power generator motor, capacitor 
and diesel engine, which captures kinetic energy when the upper body is braked during 
slewing and uses it to charge capacitors. These can then provide a fast discharge of 
energy to turn the upper structure or supplement the diesel engine's power. 
According to Komatsu this can reduce fuel consumption from between ‐20% and ‐40% 
over a standard PC200‐8, depending on the application. 
 
" Volvo Construction Equipment will expand its business in China. 
In line with the 2010‐2012 strategic goal – to become Brazil, Russia, India and China, 
four top three industries in emerging markets, Volvo Construction Equipment has 
announced that it will launch in the Chinese market by 2010, four “Lingong” brand The 
new excavator.  
 
" Liugong is aggressively marketing 20 T class excavators in India. They have displayed it in 
Excon 2009.  
1. This excavator shall be imported from China. 
2. They shall quote the prices in INR.  
3. Billings ex Chennai port Rs. 37 Lacs. 
4. They  do  not  have  plans  right  now  for  utilizing  the  Pithampur  (Indore)  factory  for 
manufacturing of excavator.

 " Caterpillar plans to do major restructuring with their India operations: 
1. At TIL they plan to chop the entire operations into 4 pieces (working units). 
2. Each unit will have an ambitious target. 
3. CAT people will also be joining TIL work force in promotion. 
4. They aim to achieve 25% market share in India operations by 2015. 
5. They are said to have opened up vertical for mining except rock, granite, marble 
etc. 
 
" L&T  Komatsu  is  replacing  current  dealer  of  Mumbai  and  is  looking  for  a  new  strong 
dealer. Also they are looking for replacements in some other areas as well. 
 
" Kobelco to invest more in Sri City project in phase‐II 
Kobelco, the Japanese construction equipment company, is likely to pump in around Rs. 
100 crore in phase‐II on its Sri City project near Chennai. Kobelco has begun work on its 
Rs. 50‐crore manufacturing unit in Sri City industrial estate in phase‐I. The facilities will 
manufacturer  excavators  machines  by  2011.  In  phase‐II,  the  company  is  planning  to 
invest  another  Rs  100  crore  to  expand  the  facility,  which  is  likely  to  be  completed  by 
2012. 
 
" Russian company to set up unit in Pune. 
CHETRA‐Industrial Machinery, owned by Concern Tractor Plants n.v. of Russia, is eyeing 
the Indian construction equipment market in a big way with initial plans to open a unit 
in Pune within four months, The official revealed his company's plans on the sidelines of 
Excon 2009, the 5th International Construction Equipment and Construction Technology 
Trade Fair in Bengaluru last month. CHETRA showcased undercarriage parts for crawler 
tractors, bulldozers, pipe‐layers, excavators and loaders. 
For the last five years, CHETRA has shipped to India more than 250 units of machines, 
including  pipe‐layers,  dozers  and  skidders,  manufactured  by  Promtractor  JSC  and 
Onezhsk Tractor Plant JSC. Customers in India have included Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, 
Punj  Lloyd,  Essar  Constructions  Ltd,  Kalpataru,  Hindustan  Construction  Company  Ltd, 
Jaihind Projects Ltd, and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd, to name a few. 
 
" Sumitomo Construction machinery India Pvt. Ltd. has appointed 3 dealers in India. They

Also Company plans to appoint 8 to 10 more dealers in 2010. Sumitomo Japan started to                           
market its excavator through Dozco from 2007  to 2009.  To have better coverage they 
have set wholly owned India subsidiary and has appointed 3 dealers. Sumitomo markets 
excavators between 13 T to 80 T in India. 
 
" Mr. Ramarajan National Sales Manager has left VOLVO.
