Procedure for experiments in PART-B (Schematic of CMOS Invertor):

1. Go to file menu in S Edit window New New design, type desired file name and
select the desired folder for the file to be created.
2. In the library window, click on ADD, browse to My documents Tanner tools
v3.1Librariesdevicesselect devices.tanner and add it to the library.
a) Again browse back to libraryIO_pads and add IO_pads.tanner to the
library,similarly
b) Add all the tanner files except “all” and “models” to the library.
c) You’ll find the tanner files in the library window
3. In the menu bar, go to Cell New view and change the cell name as desired and click on
OK
4. In the library window, select devicesPMOSinstance, now place the pmos in the cell
wherever requireddone.Similarly select NMOS and place it in the cell.
Select miscVDDplace itdone, GNDplace itdone.
5. To complete the connections select WIRE icon in the toolbar and connect the wires
wherever necessary. For PMOS, connect substrate to VDD and for NMOS connect
substrate to GND.
6. To add input, click on INPUT PORT in the toolbar and place it wherever required. Now
add output port by using OUTPUT PORT icon in the tool bar and place it wherever
required. To rotate the port, press R, in the keyboard.
7. Save the file. If not successful, go to FileSaveSave design inverter and its libraries.
The saved file has .EDIF extension.

Simulation:

8. Go to File Export Export SPICE. Now minimize S-EDIT window and open T-
SPICE window. Click on UNBLOCK if Windows security alert is observed.
9. Go to File  Open Browse and open the SPICE NETLIST file saved in your created
folder.
10. Select INSERT COMMAND from toolbar
Go to Files library. T-SPICE will be stored in “F:\Files_legacy
SEDIT\Generic_025.LIB”. Add this file just above .END command in the additional
spice commands area. Type “TT” at the end of this command.
11. Go to Insertanalysistransient select standard(from dc operating points)
Maximum time =10ns
Simulation = 100ns
Click on insert command
Similarly,
Analysis DC transfer sweep Sweep1: Sweep= linear, parameter = source, source
name = v1,start = 0, stop = 10 and increment = 1 Accept Insert.

a. Voltage sourcebit: voltage source name = v1, positive = A.

waveform: bit = (whatever bit order required)
constant: voltage source name: v2,positive = VDD, DC = 5VInsert.
b. Output transient results: node name = Y Add, node name = A add.
c. DC results: node name = Yadd Insert command.
d. Powertype v1, start time = 10ns, end time(simulation) =100nsinsert
command.
e. Settingsparameters:
Parameter name=w1, parameter value=5u add.
Parameter name=L1, parameter value=1u add.
Parameter name=w2, parameter value=6u add.
Parameter name=L2, parameter value=1u add insert command.
e. Output measure: analysis = transient, measurement result name = transient,
measurement type = signal statistics, output signal= V(Y) Insert command.
f. Optimizationwizard:

Optimization= optsize, analysis name = first transient analysis continue.

Measurement = transient.

Target value = 15ns continue.

Parameter name = w1, Minimum value = 1u, Maximum value = 10u, Delta = 0.5u

Guess value = 5u  Add.

Parameter name = L1, Minimum value = 1u, Maximum value = 10u, Delta = 0.5u,

Guess value = 1u  Add.

Parameter name = w2, Minimum value = 1u, Maximum value = 2u, Delta = 0.5u,

Guess value = 1u  Add.

Parameter name = L2, Minimum value = 1u, Maximum value = 2u, Delta = 0.5u,

Guess value = 1u  Add  Continue.

g. Name = opmod continue Insert command close.

12. Now save the file and click on Run simulation( ) icon on the tool bar.
