Introduction
Students lead very busy with their lives that cause them to spend too little
time in studying. Also, different students have different techniques on how to
study, they have their own and unique study habits. What may be a good study
habit to one student may be bad to another student. Study habits is one of the great
students or learning factors that hugely affect student’s achievements. This
efficient study habits are associated with the attitude towards learning. The attitude
of a student towards study has a big contribution on academic achievement, a good
study pattern. Lack of good study habits is a critical study problem among students
at all levels, especially on higher level, they were bombarded with school works.
While having effective study skills may be overlooked on the academic journey,
the researcher sat the tipping point in making good students into great students.

It’s important to know that there are different styles of learning and how a
person will retain information better in different ways. This will help the learner to
determine how to study, where to study, when to study and other important factors.
However, if the students develop good study pattern and with a good discipline,
they can perform well in their academic aspect. How a student takes his/her
studies, greatly determines his/her level of academic achievements and the level of
preparation and learning strategies developed by students. The best way is to
develop strong, disciplined study habits that help the learner on their assignments,
finish and understand the reading, write essays and ace the tests.

Review of Related Literature

Various studies in other countries have shown that study habits can affect
the performance in school. According to Nuthana and Yenagi (2009) of Nigeria,
they found out that there is a significant relationship between study habits and
academic achievement. Another study was conducted by Husain (2000) that study
methods offers an enormous possibilities for successful achievement in studies,
according to him, it is the knowledge of study skills or techniques by students and
it has already proven by several study methods. Meanwhile, Ashish (2013) stated
that the students must ensure academic success throughout the entire school year,
and it is important to avoid bad habits and start good ones. Adeninyi (2011)
maintains that good study habits allow students to study independently at home
and aim for higher grades.
Study habits helps an individual to give his/her identity, it is not only inside the
classroom but also the environment. In line with this, there are good habits that
students can do based on the research of Harper and Row (2010) such as:

1. studying everyday

2. creating a private place at home to study

3. Turning off the phone, TV or technologies that can disturb the learner

4. Studying in a way that suits a students learning styles

5. studying early and studying the hardest things first.

These are the possible study habits that the students can relay on. There are several
factors that tend to affect students study habits. However, Gallinger and Seibert
(2002) noted a link between poor study habits and low academic achievement in
that the student that have poor study habits tends to have poor achievement. Thus,
study habits have great impact throughout the life on an individual. Weak study
habits of the students affect the academic performance drastically.Mark Howard
(2009) stated that most of the students in secondary school hardly know how to
study properly. In addition, Frank Pogue (2000) conducted a research project why
students fail, What he found to be true in that study habits survey was that students
fail because they do not know how to study. Nevertheless, an improvement of
study habits is necessary so that the can perform well in their studies. Another
study have shown that study habits can be affected by factors such as:

1. Home environment 6. The leisure of the students

2. Procrastination and poor time 7. Technologies such as computer

management game

3. Social networking platforms 8. Financial status

4. Student’s determination and 9. Studying Materials

inspiration
10. Nature friends and peer group
5. Activities in school
