Methodology

This chapter presents the methods to be used in the study. It also discusses about

the set ups used in the study, the procedures, and the process of data gathering used in the

experiment. This experimental study will deal with the electrical output of the improvised

device by computing for its average electrical power yield.

Materials

 Magnets – the researchers use different magnets. One set of magnets will be

attached to the blades of CPU fan and the other set (facing the same pole to the

magnets attached to the fan) will placed outside the fan. The repulsion force

between the magnets will result to the motion which will make the device

 CPU Fan – the fan will serve as the propeller for the device.

 Dynamo – the electric-generating component of the device. It is the one able to

convert the mechanical energy applied to the fan to electrical energy.

 Wires – the medium for transportation of the generated electricity to reach the

power storage.

 Power storage – the component of the device in charge of storing electricity

generated by the dynamo.

 Diode – a semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of

current in one direction only.

 Multimeter – will be used to measure the electrical power yield of the device.
 Soldering Iron and Lead – will be used to join wires and other electrical

components of the device.

 Glue gun and Glue stick – will be used to attach different non-electrical

components of the device.

Procedure

 Remove the rear fan guard by taking off the plastic nut that holds the rear fan guard

to the upper assembly. Remove the alternator of the CPU fan. Put the fan back to

the case upon removing the alternator (make sure not to break the case).

 Attach the small magnets one on each blade of the fan. The magnets should have

uniform polarity facing outside.

 Attach the shaft at the rear of the fan using glue gun. Connect the dynamo to the

other end of the shaft using small gear.

 Join the wires to the two ends of the dynamo using soldering iron and lead. Put one

diode to the one wire to avoid current backflow. Connect the other ends of the wires

to the power storage.

 Using a multimeter, measure the voltage and current of the device.

The researchers will use only one set up and will run three trials to gather data. The

data will be measured are only the voltage and electric output of the device. The data

gathered will be put in a table and will be interpret by the researchers.
