Aims of this workshop

• To introduce the new Movers and


Flyers Writing tasks
• To look at how Writing is assessed
• To explore some ideas and activities
to help prepare your students for
success in the new tasks

Assessment of three main areas:


1. Progression of events: Does it tell
a story?
2. Use of picture prompts: Does it
connect all the pictures in a story?
3. Comprehensibility: Is it easy to read
and understand?

• Designed to support teachers in developing students’


communicative writing skills (positive washback)
• Designed to allow candidates to show how much they
know (success oriented)
New writing tasks and the CEFR

A1 level (Movers): Can write short, simple, isolated phrases


about everyday topics and communicative situations
A2 level (Flyers): Can write a short, simple message in an
email [here, a story]
Using the descriptors for teaching and learning

Agree or disagree?
1. It’s a good idea to give students a score based on the
exam assessment criteria every time, so they can see
how much progress they are making.
2. It’s wrong to correct students’ grammar mistakes.
3. Teachers should give balanced feedback, starting with
strengths and giving ideas for what to improve.
4. Teachers should always comment on the content of the
writing.
5. We can give students models of writing to learn so
they can use them in this kind of task.
