Microwave Signal Source (S Band)
Introduction
Technilab Instrument Microwave Signal Source is a compact, light weight and
having RF power output over the frequency range 2GHz to 3GHz (S band).

Microwave Signal Source is a basic instrument required in any microwave

teaching laboratory. Signal generators available in the market, for operation at
Microwave Frequencies in Giga Hertz are sophisticated and expensive. The
Microwave Signal source is developed by TECHNILAB INSTRUMENT particularly to
suite the requirement of Instructions Laboratories while keeping the cost
affordable. The signal source can be used to set-up microwave experiments in
laboratories.

The above instrument has a built in modulation and CW mode so that standard
VSWR meter, Power meter and Cathode Ray Oscilloscope can be used as test
instrument for making measurements.

INSTALLATION
Unpacking:
After unpacking the instrument from the package, check for any damages to the
instrument, especially knobs and connectors; File a claim within 6 days after
receiving the instrument.

Power Connection:
The instrument operates with 230V50Hz AC input. Fuse is built in power socket.
Plug the power cord into the back panel socket and the other end into any 5 Amp,
3 pin outlet. Make sure the power switch is in off position before switching ON,

Testing for correct operation:

On switching the instrument reads Company name, Band,
RF Frequency, on varying the Frequency knob the frequency various.
On continuous pressing of reset button on front panel the LCD reads out the
Tuning Voltage fed to VCO.
Using the system
OPERATION – CONTROL:
Mains: This switches the mains power ON/OFF. Immediately the RF power is ON.

Reset: On continuous pressing of reset button on front panel the LCD reads out
the Tuning Voltage fed to VCO

Tuning Voltage knob: The output RF frequency changes linearly from the start
frequency to end frequency (1.9GHz-3.3GHz). The knob is turned to the desired
frequency of the user.

RF Output: The RF Output is available at this SMA female connector when the
main’s is turned ON.

AC Power Input: 3 pin Socket and fuse on the back panel.

Frequency / Voltage Display: The LCD displays the RF Frequency and also the
Tuning voltage. This is important to note that there is no counter inside the
source. The reading is obtained from the tuning voltage, which is proportional to
the frequency. For precise frequency measurement we need to use an external
microwave frequency counter.
