CIT320: Business Analytics: Fundamentals and Modelling Techniques

Background:
Production Errors
Established in 2002, t-shirts.com has rapidly become the place to find, order,
and save on T-shirts. One huge selling factor is that the company
manufactures its own T-shirts. However, the quality manager for the
production plant, Kasey Harnish, has noticed an unacceptable number of
defective T-shirts being produced. You have been hired to assist Kasey in
understanding where the problems are concentrated. He suggests using a
PivotTable to perform an analysis and has provided you with a data file,
Lastname1_Lastname2_TshirtProduction_DataSet. The following is a brief
definition of the information within the data file:
A. Batch: A unique number that identifies each batch or group of products
produced.
B. Product: A unique number that identifies each product.
C. Machine: A unique number that identifies each machine on which
products are produced.
D. Employee: A unique number that identifies each employee producing
products.
E. Batch Size: The number of products produced in a given batch.
F. Num Defective: The number of defective products produced in a given
batch.

Specifications:
1. Do this activity with a partner. You may also opt to work independently.
2. Screenshot the pivot table and pivot chart and provide your analysis in
two paragraphs.
3. Paper format:
 Paper Size: short size
 Line Spacing: 1.0
4. Promptness: Submission date of hardcopy is July 25, 2018 during class
hours. The excel file should be submitted also via Schoology, same date
and time.

Note: Use the shared pdf in Google Drive as reference or you may check other
online sources.
Scoring Scheme:
Elements to check Description Points
Pivot table and pivot The problems can be
chart identified in the
following reports:
 Show the highest 5 pts
defective product by
machine or
 Show the highest 5 pts
defective product by
employee or
 Show the highest 5 pts
defective product by
batch number or
 Show employee who 5 pts
has the most defective
batch number or
 Show count machine 5 pts
used by employees
that produces
defective products
Problem Analysis Explain the data as 5 pts = Excellent
shown in the graph. 3 pts = Acceptable
Discuss the implication 1 pt = Marginal
of the data.
Recommendation Provide solution for the 5 pts = Excellent
problems. This involves 3 pts = Acceptable
decision-making for the 1 pt = Marginal
companies to improve
production
management.
