I. Credit Requirement & Limits
As per the PGP guidelines, the credit requirements for PGDM course are as follows:

Credits Term IV Term V Term VI Year 2 (Total)

Minimum 15 15 9 42
Maximum 21 21 18 54

Please note that the term paper would NOT be considered to fulfill the minimum credit
requirement (for any term or even for the whole year). However, it would be included in the
maximum credit requirement for each term as well as for the whole year. Maximum of two term
papers are allowed in 2nd year with maximum one term paper in any term.

Note that all students should complete a minimum of 42 credits (excluding term paper but
including MRP) and take a maximum of 54 credits (including term paper and MRP) in the second
year.

Disclaimer: Students should go back and check the PGP rule book regarding credit rules. We
would not be responsible for any mistake on their part regarding the same.

II. Courses & Curtain Raiser

All the courses offered in second year are elective courses. Course outlines of all the courses
offered by each academic group would be shared before the final course registration process.
Students are required to read the outlines and decide the priority of courses for themselves
based on their interest.

The number of seats offered in any subject might vary from 40 to 100. This cap is fixed by the
academic group and PGP office. No extra seats would be allowed for any subjects. The default
cap for the courses (for which cap is not mentioned) is 85. If the number of registration goes
below 20 [30, if course instructor is a PTVF] for any subject, then the course would be dropped.

Curtain raiser would be organized by each academic group, where the group representative
would be presenting the courses offered by them for the upcoming academic year. Students
should clarify their doubts from the group representative, if any, regarding the courses offered
by the group.

A course can also be offered in multiple sections. In this regard, all the sections will be in different
slots. The student will have an option of choosing one of the sections in which the course is being
offered.

3
III. Pre-Registration Round & Time Table
Pre-Registration will be conducted to get an estimate of the number of students who might be
interested in a particular course. This data will be used to design the timetable and slots for the
specific term. It is mandatory for every student to indicate his/her choices in this phase by the
stipulated deadline.
Every student should indicate his/her choices in accordance with the credit requirements,
irrespective of caps in courses. The choices indicated by students in this phase will have
absolutely no bearing on the choices available to the student during Final Registration.
Students are expected to take this phase seriously so that the slots prepared can cater to the
best interest of the majority. The data generated in this phase would also help you decide how
much to bid for a particular course, if it goes into bidding. Pre-Registration data helps the PGP
office to develop slots for courses and though they try to minimize clashes of favorite subjects
(ones with highest Pre-Registration interests), overlap of courses is bound to happen which might
limit the choice of courses you can select. Selection of overlapping courses would NOT be
allowed in the final registration. Certain stipulations regarding eligibility of students for the
course would be mentioned in the course outline & course list which are to be strictly followed.
In case of any offence, the selected course shall be dropped by the PGP Representatives.

IV. Mock Runs

There would be a mock run conducted before the final course registration process for every term
[2 Mocks for Term IV]. It is mandatory for everyone to participate in the course registration
process. It is important for students to make themselves comfortable with the course bidding
software and the process to avoid any final day inconvenience.

Kindly note that the choices and results of mock rounds would have no bearing on the final
course allotment.

Also, everyone is required to report any anomalies found during the mock run, so that can be
taken care of before the final registration process. Mock rounds and final registration round are
similar and require good internet connectivity for the whole duration. The process generally
requires about 3 hours to complete. It is recommended to use LAN for the mock rounds as well
as final round.

The software is not mobile friendly and must be used on laptop/desktop.

4
V. Final Registration
The schedule for final registration process would be conveyed through BB. Everyone must login,
through their IIM Calcutta ID, and check for the access of the software before the deadline
through the shared link. Any discrepancy must be reported through the designated form before
the stipulated deadline.

The time for individual rounds for the bidding process would be conveyed on the final registration
day. Other details about the bidding process and different rounds are available in the file shared
along with this document.

It is the responsibility of student to ensure that they fulfil the minimum credit requirement for
the term and the year.

Everyone is encouraged to bid in Waitlist Round so that they can register for the course if
someone drops it.

VI. Bid Points

Term IV Term V Term VI
350 350 250

Bid points from one term are not carried over to another term.

VII. Course Drop Round (Shopping Week)

Students can drop the courses within the first week of the classes. Course drop form would be
floated through BB with a specified deadline. It is the responsibility of student to ensure that
even after dropping the courses through the course drop form, they fulfil the minimum credit
requirement criteria of the Term as well as for passing the course. If after the course drop round,
the number of registrations in that course goes below 20 [30, if the course instructor is a PTVF]
the course drop would not be allowed.
Bidding courses: A course would qualify as a bidding course if the number of allotments in the
particular course, in the concerned round, is equal to the maximum number of available seats in
that course. This condition is applicable round-wise. So, a course can be a bidding course in Round
X and non-bidding in Round Y, depending upon the number of students bidding for that course
in each round.
A student can drop the course only if the course was non-bidding in the round in which student
has won that course. Bidding courses cannot be dropped.

5
Eg.: Suppose in round 1, Course X was non-bidding & student A won that course and in round 2,
the course was bidding & student B won that course. So, student A can drop the course in the
shopping week whereas student B cannot drop the course.
However, any course, whether bidding or non-bidding, won in waitlist round cannot be
dropped at any point.
No requests would be entertained for any course drops after the stipulated deadline.
NOTE: The rules mentioned in Section VII are applicable only for the shopping week (1st week
of the term – Till Saturday EOD). However, courses can be dropped during the course
registration process as allowed by the software.

above-mentioned.
