Final Year Project
Guidelines
1. Project Group:

 Each student needs to demonstrate sound problem solving and analytical skills
individually.
 Every Student needs to do final Project individually.

2. Projects Allocation:
 Students may propose their own project topics, or choose from a list of topics
provided by the project advisor.

 Different student will not share the same project topic.

 Internal project advisor(s) have to be permanent faculty member of UMT.

3. Assessment of Project:
3.1 Final Project:

 Viva committee will consist of two members, including project advisor and
program head. At least one of the committee members should be of the rank of
Assistant Professor or above. Final decision on the project will be made by the
viva committee.

 Students will have to submit monthly progress report on regular basis during
the Project.

 Towards the end of the trimester, students will present their work to viva
committee and general audience.

 All the committee members will fill the project evaluation form, and will
assign grade.

 Students who fail to defend their project will be asked to retake the viva. In
case of retake maximum grade would be B. If students are given a retake
second time, maximum grade would be C.

 No more than two retakes are allowed. Grade “F” will be awarded after two
retakes. And students will have to register again for both parts of the project.

 If students fail to complete their project in the period of one year then
extended period can be awarded through formal written permission from
project advisory team.

 Project advisor have authority to award “I” in the case of incomplete project.

 UMT HAS ZERO TOLERANCE ON PLAGIARISM

 The passing requirement and grading criteria of student’s project is based on


assessment of the project implementation, project presentation, project report,
question and answers during student presentation.

4. Regarding Project Presentation


 All presentations have to be formal presentations. Students should be dressed
properly for the presentations. Presentation has to be in English.

 Each student must clearly describe his/her own project.

5. Notes on Project Completion


Students must submit the following after project presentation:

 Project report (3 printed copies) signed by project advisor.

 Project CD should contain soft copies of project report and source code of
project. Project report should be a single .DOC file.

6. Documentation Formation

 Main heading should be 16, Bold, Times New Roman

 Sub heading should be 14, Bold Italic, Times New Roman

 Sub heading 2 should be 13, Bold, Times New Roman

 Main body Text size should be 12, Times New Roman

 All phases of SDLC should be in different chapters’ e.g.

 Chapter 1 Business study

 Chapter 2 Proposal & Contract

 Chapter 3 Requirement Specification

 Chapter 4 Software project plan and so on

 Table of contents should be the part of the documentation

 Page number should be on right bottom corner of the document

 All the diagrams should be fit in on the page properly
