Court Observation
Presented as a requirement in
Criminal Law 1
The court hearing was took place on November 23, 2018 at RTC 4 with Hon. Ali Ombra
R. Bacaraman as presiding judge. There were 13 cases at bar, which 10 of them are criminal
cases and 3 are civil cases. Most of the criminal are violations of R.A 9165 or the
Comprehensive dangerous drugs act except for 2 cases , which one is robbery and the other is a
violation of RA 10591 or the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition.
As what I observed in the court hearing I noticed that we should comply with the rules,
Being silent at all times is a must so the hearing will not be disturbed, all cellphones should be
silent. As the judge enters the room everyone must stand up to acknowledge him. And before the
hearing would start there is a prayer that solely used for the purpose of the court. As the hearing
started I also noticed a person trying to Write all the things that the judge says, I learned that the
person is a stenographer. I also noticed that the lawyers just talked casually with each other and
the court is not really scary as what ive expected. In the court hearing specifically the criminal
proceedings, I had applied some of my learnings, being a recidivist does not only limit on
aggravating your penalty but it also disqualify you for probation. I heard the defense lawyer from
the PAO asking convicts if they have been charged previously by the same offense, and if they
have, they will be disqualified for a probation.
