PROJECT TEAM 20-21

A. WORKING METHOD STATEMENT

1. SITE CLEANING

Site cleaning shall commence and co-ordinate with the site surveyor and soil
investigator. This because certain areas to be cleared to allow the smooth works of the
other parties.

All vegetation, weeds and tall grass or other unsuitable materials obstruct the working
environment will be removed. It will be removed from site to the dumping yard.

2. SURVEYS

2
Method statement
Before the commencement of the site mobilization and site cleaning works we will
appoint a licensed surveyor to search the approved plan of the contractual site with Client
or Survey Department. Upon having the necessary plan the survey team will conduct site
survey to check for boundary and boundary demarcation by setting boundary peg to
prevent potential enragement in to neighbouring land. Temporary Bench Mark (TBM) will
also be set up a few location inside and outside the contractual boundary for future
reference during the construction period.

Having successfully doing this the above task they will conduct the levelling survey to
determine the original ground level, clops and terrain for the detail and construction
purposes.

3. TRIAL HOLES

A trial pit is an excavation of ground in order to study or sample the composition

and structure of the subsurface, usually dug during a site investigation, a soil survey,
locating existing utility services (i.e. WDD/EDD/ BETELOC). Trial pits are dug before the
construction.
Trial pits are usually between 1 and 1.50 metres deep, and are dug by hand
digging. Building and construction regulations clearly state that any trial pits that
concedes deeper than 1.2 metres should be secured against structural collapse, if they
are to be entered by people.
When underground cables are damaged, people can be killed and injured by
electric shock, electrical arcs (causing an explosion), and flames. This often results in
severe burns to hands, face and body, even if protective clothing is being worn.

Underground electrical cables can be particularly hazardous because they often look like
pipes and it is impossible to tell if they are live just by looking at them.

Excavation work should be properly managed to control risks, including:

Excavation work should be carried out carefully and follow recognised safe digging
practices.

By using the service drawing from services utility DPCU to determine cable positions and
routes, excavation may take place, with trial holes dug using suitable hand tools as
necessary to confirm this.

Excavate alongside the service rather than directly above it. Final exposure of the service
by horizontal digging is recommended; as the force applied to hand tools can be
controlled more effectively.

Insulated tools should be used when hand digging near electric cables.

3
Method statement
All service cable / pipe / ducts found in trial holes should be recorded by alignment
and levels to be taken for making the shop drawing.

All trial pits should be back filled with suitable back filling material and well
compacted.

4. SHOP DRAWINGS

After conducting the trial hole using the trial hole details and survey data our design
team will proceed with their detail design and decide on their process flow, levels, and
positioning of structures. The design team will then finalized their layout and submit it to
client and relevant authorities for approval.

5. EXCAVATIONS

Upon approval of construction drawings, machineries and survey team will be

mobilized to the site. The survey team will establish survey control such as Temporary Bench
Mark (TBM) and alignment control to mark the limit of excavation. The area that needs to
be excavated will be pegged and volume of excavation will be determined.

Long arm excavator will be required for the deep excavation more than six meters.
Fore excavation less than six meters we proposed to use a normal excavator 300 series or
200 series depending on the volume of the excavation.

Excavated material will be hauled immediately to fill the idling area within the site or
to be disposed to our own dumping site. Dumper trucks will be employing to do the hauling.
A backhoe and skid loader will be used to level the dumped excavated material. No
excavated material shall be stockpile within the vicinity of an excavated area or an newly
constructed structures to avoid slop failure.

During excavation, a team of surveyor will regularly monitor the excavation levels to
avoid over cutting.

Excavation more than 2.00 meter deep we propose to stabilize the slop with sheet piling to
avoid any untoward happenings.

We expect the ground water table are quite high in the area, probably 2.0 meter
below the original ground level. To ensure smooth excavation, we will provide water pumps
to pump out the ground water from the excavated area.

‫ى‬

Shoring is the provision of a support system for trench faces used to prevent
Cave-ins, movement of soil, underground utilities, roadways, and foundations. Excavation
shall be done to the required depth using sheet piles with necessary supporting frames.

4
Method statement
Sheet piles will be driven 500 mm below the formation level or up to the hard rock (Depends
on the soil),
While designing a protective system we must consider many factors like, soil
classification, depth of cut, water content of soil, changes caused by weather or climate,
surcharge loads etc. For excavation more than 2.00 meters we propose to stabilize the slop
with by installing temporary sheet pile. sheet piles will be 800 mm above the ground level.
A one tone vibrator hammer mounted to the excavator shall be used to drive the
sheet pile into position. Care should be taken to ensure the pile is properly interlocked. The
sheet pile walls then need to be sufficient braced with universal beams to avoid collapse

7. DEWATERING

6
Method statement
Excavation shall be done up to a level of 50 cm above the ground water table level all
around the required areas as noted in the scope of work above. Then install the well point
dewatering system at the deduced level. A high pressure centrifugal pump with suction
and delivery hoses shall be used to create voids in the soil. Pre- auguring shall be carried
out if the soil is found to be hard. 150 mm dia suction hose point with 1.00 m screen shall be
placed with 10 mm aggregates, if required, will be filled around the annular space to act
as a filter medium. Well points shall be connected to headers through flex- bows and
headers in turn to the self-priming centrifugal pump placed at the reduced ground level.
Pumps will be started and dewatering will be done continuously. Excavation can be
continued to achieve the required level. Hand excavation shall be carried out near the
well points and headers to ensure that there is no damage to these components.

Preventing The Migration of Fines:

After observing the soil report it is evident that 10mm aggregate is the best suitable for
filling the annular area to prevent any migration of the fines.

Service:
Periodic service will be carried out according to the normal service schedule.

Discharge:
Discharge of ground water will be to the nearest available disposal point, subject to
the N.O.C. from relevant authorities, to be arranged by the Main Contractor.
Sedimentation tank will be kept to collect any fines present in the water.

Required Data:
Water Table level: …….. M

8. CONCRETING

During the preliminary stage we will scout the nearby concrete suppliers to this
project. The supplier will be requested to submit their design mix for approval.

All concrete batches arriving at the site from the approved supplier will still need to
be checked on their workability by means of slump test. A batch that fails the slump test
will be rejected and asked to leave the site immediately. Cube test also will be conducted
to every concrete supply to the site and mix will then be tested to check their crushing
strength at 7 days and 28 days.

Sufficient size of poker vibrator will be used to spread and vibrate the concrete.

 Those workers exposed to vehicular traffic will wear High Visibility Reflective Jacket.
 No one will work underneath loads handled by lifting or digging equipment. Workers
will stand away from any vehicle being loaded or unloaded to avoid being struck by
any spillage or falling materials.

 Sign Boards.
Signs, lights and guarding equipment must be secured against being blown over or
out of position by the wind or by passing traffic. Do not use barrels, kerb stones or
similar objects for this purpose - they could be dangerous if hit by traffic. Do not use
road pins under any circumstances.

13
Method statement
Place the first sign far enough from the works to give adequate warning of the hazard
(as per MOW traffic safety manual procedures). Where signs have to be placed on
a footway, they should be positioned so as to minimize inconvenience or hazard to
pedestrians. Check regularly that signs have not been moved or damaged or
become dirty, including when the site is left unattended for a period of time.

 Additional Requirements.
Sometimes you may have to duplicate the warning signs on both sides of the road.
An example of this would be where signs on the left hand side become obscured by
heavy traffic. On dual carriageway roads, the warning signs need to be duplicated
on the central reservation. The road width and volume of traffic at the works site may
make traffic control necessary. See MOW traffic safety manual for details of which
type of control is appropriate.

 Maintenance Of Site.
Always keep the site safe with signs, cones, lights and barriers clean and correctly
placed. When no one is on site, make sure that the site is regularly inspected.
Damaged or displaced equipment must be replaced promptly. Emergencies should
be dealt with without delay.
