Roles & Responsibilities for Plant Inspector / Inspection Engineer / Quality
Control Engineer:
 In-service / shutdown inspection of most of the static equipment’s in a plant, such
as pressure vessels, Boilers, Hydrogen crackers, reactor vessels, Storage tanks,
reformer tubes, risers, topside structures, well head parts, valves, etc.
 Internal and external inspection and corrosion monitoring of Static Equipments
like Vessels, Exchangers, Columns Heaters ,Fin fan coolers, Pipe lines and Storage
Tanks such as Dm water &Diesel during online and shutdown period and issue a
report for necessary repair with welding procedures.
 Corrosion monitoring of High pressure and High Temperature Pipe lines in plant
and cross country pipelines during service/shutdown by Ultrasonic Thickness
Measurement
 Preparation of all NDT Reports and issue a recommendation for necessary actions.
 Responsible for all NDT Activities/ Quality control inspection during the
shutdown job and fabrication & modification jobs.
 Extensively more experience in Inspection of Boilers & Waste heat Boilers. Creep
measurement and thickness measurement of Boiler water wall tubes, super heater

tubes, Air preheater tubes and economizer coils. Visual Inspection of furnace
chamber for refractory damage& burner tip corrosion.
 Hydro test Witnessing of Boilers & Waste Heat Boilers.
 Inspection of Boiler FD fan &ID fan suction Duct and Internal Inspection of Steam
Drum and Mud Drum.
 As for API 598 Hydro testing gat valve butter fly valve globe valve Nan retain valve
testing control valve witnessing of hydro and pneumatic recommendation of valve
damage parts
 Inspection of all construction related activities, welding procedures, welding
procedure qualifications, welder performance qualification tests, Consumable
controls, handlings, storage, erection pipe works, painting Inspection, pressure
test, punch lists, reinstatement checks, pre-commission checks, etc.
 Corrosion and erosion monitoring of various flow lines, process and utility lines,
pressure vessels, well head parts, valves, etc. using suitable NDT tools like UT, RT,
Visual.
 Good Knowledge in corrosion/degradation mechanisms and mitigation methods.
 Prepare& Witnessing of QAPs, ITPs, WPSs and welder qualification tests.
 Ensure equipment integrity of static equipment such as vessels, heat exchangers,
furnaces, fin-fan coolers, steam boiler and process piping.
 Supervise process plant inspection activities, NDT techniques, and high pressure
welding practices.
 Supervise all the activities regarding inspection and monitoring of Static Equipment
and piping. Establish, maintain and update Inspection plans and inspection
schedules.
 Coordination of Inspection and routine mechanical maintenance activities.
 To advise on repair techniques, materials selection, welding procedures, inspection
and testing requirements for routine plant related problems and finalization of
daily, weekly & monthly inspection reports.
 Planning for inspection jobs for plant shut down. Update and upkeep of inspection
section for efficient functioning.
 Management of NDT equipment spares and coordinate external NDT agencies hired
for plant shut downs as well as on-stream days and inspection of jobs on going at
contractor’s sites.
 Witnessing internal inspection for corrosion, erosion and modifications like
installation of new nozzles, ring, demister pad, baffle plate, vortex breaker, bed
limiters, trays, pal rings, bolt, nut and gasket etc.for pressure vessels & heat
exchangers as per project specs, approved drawings and applicable codes.

 Conducting and participation of pre –inspection meeting with client and vendors
and formulating the ways of inspection at per with the approved inspection test

 Fit-up inspection:- Inspection of the fit –ups in the in process stage with respect to
visual, dimensional and orientation compliance as per the approved drawings and

SMAW,GTAW,FCAW,GMAW, SAW Stud welding for CS, SS, Mild steel, Cast-iron ect.

in heavy steel structures, storage tanks, Ducting, critical crane components ect. As
per the related applicable codes and have been well experienced.
 Review of Daily weld joint summary report, RT Films, NDT reports PWHT,
Hardness reports and vendor document registers, inspection schedules and Liaise
with Client for review and approval QA/QC documents
 Documentation:- Preparation of different types of documentation, inspection
formats. Preparation of final dossier for small projects, shipping documents.

 To review project contract documents and project specifications and identify the
scope of Quality Assurance & Certification requirements
 Participate in receiving inspection of vendor supplied items.
 Stage inspection of fabricated items prior to painting-carry out visual inspection of
welding for finish and appearance and dimensional inspection in accordance with
agreed Inspection & Test Plans, Approved Procedures, Specifications and Codes or
Standards.
 Multi discipline activities - Preparation, review and approval of quality control
procedure, ITP, method statement and material identification, visual inspection,

welding consumable control, dimensional check, performance test, hydro test and
pneumatic test.

QA/QC- PIPELINE, PIPING & WELDING:

 Review of vendor Quality manuals, Quality plans, specifications, Procedures, Audit


report according to ISO 9001 – 2008 requirements.
 Monitor the Delivery of permanent materials and ensure the quality of products,
consumables, materials that comply with requirements of established Standards
and Shell’s Specifications.

 Review the WPS, Calibration records of Welding machines, Quivers, prior to start up
the welding activities and witness of PQR and Welder Qualification Test.
 Review of Daily weld joint summary report, RT Films, NDT reports PWHT,
Hardness reports and vendor document registers, inspection schedules and Liaise
with Client for review and approval QA/QC documents.
 Perform routine surveillance Inspection, monitoring, auditing & assurance of
contractor’s site activities (Fabrication, Welding & NDT) in accordance with the
Projects and Contractor’s Specifications, ITP and Quality Plans.

 Plan &Organize Site inspection activities and ensures the certificates are valid for
QC Inspectors, NDT Technician’s and welder’s skill evaluation and Maintain the
consumables according the standards and Procedures.
 Preparation and review of weekly and monthly Inspection reports and monitors the
performance of QC Inspectors and NDT Technicians.

 Prepare concession requests and submit to Client for approval, wherever
implementation is not possible as per project specification. Monitor Inspection
activities and issue NCR, FTR where ever violations found.
 Verification of Isometric drawing with respect to general arrangement, Piping &
Instrumentation drawing and welding data are as per latest Isometric Drawing.

 Ensuring the weld joints, supports were welded and correct piping materials being
used.

 Repair follow -up, confirming the line check as per P & ID, Isometric for NDT
clearance, punch list preparation and follow up for final completion.

 Review and release of Test packs for hydrostatic / pneumatic pressure test.

 Reviewing the certificates of water quality, calibration of pressure gauge, Pressure


relief valve and chart recorders before starts and witnessing of Hydrostatic
Pressure/Pneumatic test and ensuring Re-instatements of Piping Systems.
