Here are all of the useful websites I could find to help students preparing for the Cambridge
First Certificate exam. The key to succeed in it is PRACTICE. Also, make sure to take the

bank every day and the bank of writing showcasing all of the different text types, including

selected contents. Still a fantastic website, clearly organised and well-designed for candidates.

 Get to know the exam:

Look out for the exam tips and information about the format of the exam– they tell you more
about the exam and give you loads of useful advice about how to prepare.
Try using the exam answer sheets your teacher will give you so you know how you should
complete the exam on the day.
Look at videos on YouTube and practise doing a complete paper with a timer.

 Keep doing practice tests: Doing practice tests helps you review the language you have learnt
and get used to the way the exam works. You will feel more relaxed if you know what to expect
in the exam!
 Write your own exam questions: Writing your own exam questions will help you understand
how the test works and which skills you need for each type of question. Swap questions with a
friend to get extra exam practice.
 Learn new words...: Finding ways to remember the new vocabulary you’ve learnt is really
important. Try keeping a vocabulary notebook, with words organised by topic - you could draw
pictures, or write translations, definitions and example sentences to help you remember the
words.
 ...and more!: In the FCE exam, you will be tested on more than just vocabulary so make sure
you include phrasal verbs, collocations and idiomatic phrases in your vocabulary learning. These
will come in very useful in the test!
 Make your own flashcards: Make some small cards. Write the English word or phrase on the
front and a translation or a picture on the back. When you test yourself, think of an example
 sentence for each word - it’s important to learn how different words are used, as well as their
meaning.
 Practise English outside the classroom!: It’s a good idea to read and listen to as much English
as you can. Try reading magazine or news articles, downloading podcasts in English or watching
an English film – you can always use the subtitles to help you!
 Practice answering questions – but don’t learn answers: In the speaking test, the examiner
will begin by asking you about yourself. Practise introducing yourself and answering different
questions about your family, your interests and your likes and dislikes.
 Talk to other people who have done the exam: Ask students who have done the exam to tell
you what it was like and how they studied. They might have some good advice for you.
 After the exam: Think about your experience and what you learned. Will you prepare
differently for your next exam?
