Jet Stephen Chong, now 17 years old, started taking his first piano lessons at the age of 5 in Chiang Kai
Shek College’s School of Music. When he reached 9, he transferred to Prof. Anthony Say.

17-year-old Jet Stephen Chong, a Grade 10 student of Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA), learned
to play the piano at the age of 5 under the tutelage of Ms. Mary Evans Villalon. At the age of 9, he
transferred to Prof. Anthony Say to further hone his piano playing. He had his first solo recital back in 2011
which was followed by winning 2nd prize in the Piano Teachers’ Guild of the Philippines’ (PTGP)
Soundscapes Competition, Category A2.

In 2013, Jet received a scholarship grant to continue his studies in the PHSA, a place where he could focus
more on playing the piano. He also had his second solo recital in the same year. He placed 3rd in the UCSI
International Piano Competition 2014 in Malaysia. He competed with 50 other pianists of age 30 and
below and grabbed Honorable Mention in the 1st Henrietta S. Tayengco-Limjoco Mozart Piano Concerto
Competition 2016, eventually leading to his orchestral debut with the Manila Symphony Orchestra under
the baton of Maestro Aries Caces. He got 1st place in Category 3 in the Steinway Youth Piano Competition
2016 and bagged both the Grand Prize and the Special Prize for Best Interpretation of Contest Piece in
NAMCYA, Category B in the same year.
Jet was recently featured, together with other winners, in the Winners’ Concert of the 1st HSTL Piano
Competition where they were accompanied again by the Manila Symphony Orchestra under the baton of
Maestro Aries Caces. He was also an active participant in the Music Fest Perugia in Taiwan following the
concert.
