Any equipment that is replaced -- using ACC-approved funds -- will become the
responsibility of the Office of Instructional Technologies Support. If the department or unit
wants to retain control of the replaced equipment, then it must get approval from Dr. Solis,
Associate Vice President for Instructional Technologies Support. Failure to do so will result
in any future requests from the department or unit being ineligible to receive ACC funds.
List all equipment to be replaced, providing a description and university asset tag number for
each item. If the department or unit wants to retain control of the replaced equipment, then
please state below the intended use. Otherwise, the replaced equipment will be transferred to
another department or unit at the discretion of the Associate Vice President for Instructional
Technologies Support.

Total Commitment of Additional Support 24696.75
Texas State School of Music is committed to purchasing these additional resources, and guarantees that
the School of Music administration is committed to providing all needed support. Overall, a hierarchy of
requested fund expenditures by the School of Music and ACC separates into 2 categories: (1) the School
of Music support commitment is the purchase of new and updated software and hardware peripherals,
scanners, external drives, etc. and (2) ACC’s support via the grant award is toward acquisition of
hardware computing resources, such as new workstations.
The Music Computer Center serves an increasingly large number of music and Pre-Music majors
(around 600) plus approximately 1000 more non-majors who take music classes and use the Music
Building facilities and services. The Music Computer Lab directly supports 56 course sections per
semester, providing small classes, personalized attention, and state-of-the-art software for improved
learning.
I enthusiastically support this proposal to upgrade the Music Computer Center as proposed by its director.
The School of Music is committed to providing broad access, maintaining up-to-date technology, and
realizing best-practice technology training for all students. The School of Music pledges to acquire
appropriate software and peripherals to enhance the Center’s operation and accomplishment of its
mission.

Proposal Narrative
a. Statement of Need
The Music Computer Center, (herein referred to as MC2), is committed to providing computing and
technology resources to all Texas State students, faculty, and staff across campus. The current high
student usage and the 4-year age of the basic computing resources, such as workstations and
administration, of MC2 present a compelling need for replacement. In order to maintain the high
caliber of excellence expected by its users, the upgrade of this existing setup is essential, and actually
overdue. Obsolete, slow-speed computers, high repeat failure rates and repairs, 4GB RAM, small
hard drives, slow server processor speeds, and aged peripheral hardware have not kept pace with
current technologies, have depleted their useful service life in a lab environment, and have
contributed to the lowering of student expectation.
SRT (Sound Recording Technology Degree program) MC2 coordinates planning of curricula and
acquisition of hardware/software for SRT majors. MC2 provides the location for computer course-
related studies for SRT majors, housed across campus at the FireStation recording studio. MC2
workstations are equipped with digital recording/editing with Pro Tools, synthesizer-sequencing with
Digital Performer, software-synthesis with Reason, as well as producing MP3s and web sites with
d. Student Benefits
This funding will guarantee the existing and future high quality of technology training for Texas State
music majors, provide incentive for enrollment, as well as provide specialized music
software/hardware for all Texas State students, faculty, and staff. We offer training in the form of
GarageBand workshops open to all Texas State students.
MC2 is committed to providing computing and technology resources to all Texas State students across
campus. MC2 is an open lab, with specialized audio and music software, making it a destination point
by all Texas State students interested in music. We offer and publicize training sessions open to all
Texas State students in sequencing, audio editing, and CD production. MC2 encourages this, and
supports the ACC funding goal for new initiatives that significantly enhance the exposure of Texas
State students to computing applications.
e. Assessment Plan
As Director of Computer Applications in Music, and coordinator of the MC2 facility, I am committed
to a timely and professional installation of the proposed equipment, with final implementation by
August 31, 2017, and with a follow-up written record of its implementation.
f. Project Calendar
Proposal Submission – 1/13/ 2017 Equipment received – 7/1/2017
Senate review and recommendations – March/2017 Implementation completed – 8/15/ 2017
Procurement/placement of order – April/2017 Final assessment report submission – 1/13/2018
g. Security
Regarding security, MC2 has 24/7/356 motion detection, video surveillance, fulltime staff monitoring,
single-entry access via locked door with restricted key access to staff only, and a password alarm system
connected to TX State police in place since its inception in 1997.
h. Future Expenses
MC2 is celebrating its 20th year of operation. I have managed the lab since 1997. The workstation desks,
shelves, and chairs are showing great wear and tear from 20 years of use. We have had many repair
orders. The School of Music may be moving to a new facility in the coming years, and plans have been
made for a larger computer lab.
