StrataLT P ®

StrataGrid high strength, polyester geogrids have been used to

improve the bearing capacity of highway embankments over soft soil,
when precast concrete or vibro concrete columns (VCC’s) piling
systems are designed. StrataGrid is designed for a 120 year life and
transfers the embankment loads uniformly onto the piles, providing a
highly cost effective solutions.

The growing scarcity of construction accessible land is causing
engineers, contractors, and developers to find innovative ways to use
less parcels of available land, or to use areas with rough terrain and/or
steep slopes that were once considered as being unusable for
development. Traditionally these are stabilized using RCC retaining
walls, which are expensive to build and very time consuming to
construct. For small projects, availability of concrete also becomes a
challenge.

StrataWeb retaining wall solutions are ideal for such cases. These
structures can be designed similar to any structure but with added
advantages. StrataWeb units are pre-fabricated at the manufacturing
plant and are transported to site in collapsed forms. Once at site, they
are expanded manually and filled with locally available granular soil
to form a retaining structure. It avoids the requirement of concrete,
steel, and any heavy machinery apart from that required for
earthwork. For large projects or heights, StrataWeb wall can be
designed using StrataGrid reinforcing element. These help in further
economizing the solution. These walls can also be vegetated at the
face to provide an aesthetic green finish.

StrataWeb retaining wall solution is:

1. Cost effective

2. A rapid installation system

3. Avoids the requirement of concrete, steel and heavy machinery

4. Eco friendly and can provide aesthetic green finish

One of the toughest challenges faced by engineers is to construct
embankments over soft soils with low bearing capacities. Various
issues such as differential settlements, shear failures plague such
structures leading to operational and maintenance issues.

StrataWeb is a well established solution to improve the bearing

capacity of sub grades and significantly reduces differential
settlements. Due to the principles of confinement, StrataWeb
distributes heavy loads uniformly over a larger area thereby reducing
the pressure acting upon the sub soil of the embankment. For high
embankments when lateral pressures increase, high strength
StrataGrid can be used to support the embankments during the
construction process and offer the satisfactory factor of safety.

11
Sl o p e e ro s ion control
Conventionally, stone pitching has been the preferred solution for
erosion control along embankment slopes. However stone is scarce
with its quarrying restricted from environmental and commercial
considerations. It is now essential that alternate solutions are
implemented.

StrataWeb along the slope surface prevents erosion by effectively

confining the upper soil along the slope within its three dimensional
frame. Locally available fertile soil can be used as an infill which
would vegetate to provide a green and aesthetic finish. Installation of
StrataWeb is extremely simple and several times rapid than laying
stone pitching.

12
C h a n n el and res erv oir lining
With the increasing scarcity in water, it has become more imperative
to construct channel and reservoirs in order to prevent water losses
and maintain a large stock of water to keep the unit operational.

StrataWeb offers several options for solving erosion problems at the

beds and slopes of channels with either intermittent or continuous
flows. StrataWeb can be filled with vegetated soil, granular material,
concrete or a combination thereof depending on site conditions and
special requirements.

The honeycomb structure of StrataWeb provides confinement to the

infill and prevents it from being dislodged by the agents of erosion.
The infill also nurtures vegetation within the cells, which not only offers
added protection but also lends an aesthetic touch.

If a polymeric geomembrane is used StrataWeb can be effectively

laid over the geomembrane without damaging it and can be done
so at much faster pace as compared to conventional lining solutions.

13
Ve n eer stability for
la n d f ill capping
StrataWeb is specifically designed to increase the veneer stability of
landfill capping on steep slopes within environmental applications.

StrataWeb increases the angle of friction between the geomembrane

liner and the capping soil mass. The installation of StrataWeb allows a
satisfactory factor of safety on the steep slopes and guarantees long
term stability.

Container yards
s tabilization
Strata solutions for ground improvement are very versatile and can be
designed and optimized for specific site challenges. They can be designed
for very heavy loads and reduce differential settlements by a large margin
thereby reducing operational costs and economize the subgrade design
for the container yard. Additionally, access roads leading to a port are
generally not well maintained and have low subgrade soil. Poor access
roads lead to lower efficiency, increase in the operational cost and
reduced turn around times for trucks. 14
