Memorize with Mnemonics

10 Base-T and 100 Base-T Pin-outs:

Hubs and Switches: "Railroad toot" RRTOOT .... pins 1 and 2 are Rx, 3 and 6 are Tx.
A Railroad has a hub, where all the trains are parked, and a railroad has a switch to keeps trains
from crashing.
All other devices will use the opposite....TTROOR

Binary Class Boundaries

My girlfriend went from a 0 to a 10, after getting hit with 110v.
Class A: 0xxxxxxx
Class B: 10xxxxxx
Class C: 110xxxxx

Port Numbers
FTP is port 21, SSH is port 22, TELNET is port 23.
At 21 I F'd up, shh, don't tell.

At 21 I F'd up (sounds like FTP)

SSH is the next number (22). Sounds like sssshhhhh

don't tell is the next number (23). Sounds like Telnet.

Please Do Not Throw Sausage Pizza Away!

Annoying as it may sound, it works for the OSI model.

DORA, yeah, just like the explorer! to remember how IP's are assigned by DHCP.

Great information!! Thanks for sharing.

Wildcard Masks:
A "0" looks like a magnifying glass, so we inspect that bit.
A "1" looks like the letter i for ignore, so we ignore that bit.
What a fun thread (these days, I'll take fun anyway I can get it ). Here's one I've been reviewing
today:
BGP Order of Attributes for Selecting the Best Path

We Love Oranges AS Oranges Mean Pure Refreshment

W = weight (highest)
L = local preference (highest)
O = originate (locally originated routes)
AS = autonomous system path (shortest)
O = origin code (IGP>EGP>Incomplete) EGP is now obsolete
M = multi-exit discriminator (or metric; lowest)
P = paths (external>internal)
R = router ID (lowest)

The one for BGP Route Selection Decision Process:

NWLLA OMNI ORI

N = next hop: reachable?

W = weight
L = local preference
L = locally injected routes
A = autonomous system path length

O = origin
M = metric
N = neighbor type
I = IGP metric to next hop

O = oldest eBGP route

R = lowest neighbor BGP ruter ID
I = lowest neighbor IP address

Whew... a lot of typing but good stuff!

The most easiest way to remember OSI Model "Please Do Not Take Sales Person's Advise".
syslog logging levels

Level no Level name Explanation

0 Emergency The system may be unstable
1 Alert Immediate action may be required
2 Critical A critical event took place
3 Error The router experienced an error
4 Warning A condition might warrant attention
5 Notification A normal but significant condition occurred
6 Informational A normal event occurred
7 Debugging The output is a result of debug command

it might help someone here

i was having hard time to remember this so i made this..

Very good Vipin for sys logging levels!

For the individual metrics used in EIGRP composite metric:

Big (bandwidth)
Dogs (delay)
Really (relabilty)
Like (load)
Meat (metric)

There's a lot of important info about the composite metric and individual metrics, but I'll leave it to
everyone to fill in the details to suit their study plan depending on where they are in their studies.
7-Layer OSI Model:

A - L7
Priest - L6
Saw - L5
Two - L4
Nuns - L3
Doing - L2
Push-ups - L1

Some - Segment
People - Packet
Fear - Frame
Birthdays - Bit

Learned these many years ago, and have taught it to many more......
A slightly different version of one that has been suggested for the PDUs...

Don't Data L7
Don't Data L6
Don't Data L5
Stop Segments L4
Pouring Packets L3
Free Frames L2
Beer Bits L1
I thought one up for DCE/DTE.

Denise crossed over the bridge to hand Dante his watch.

DCE (Denise) is the cable that has the FEMALE connector, crosses-over, and the DCE side
provides clocking on a serial link.
DTE (Dante) is a straight through cable, has a MALE connector, and does not have clocking
capability, that is why Denise gives him the watch.
Nice!
Here is mine:

DCE is CLOCK because it has a C in it... that one's easy.

The CLOCK side is FEMALE because my wife remembers all my appointments I forget.
Back when I first was trying to learn the OSI layers there were only 3 Star Wars movies and there
was only rumors of what was going to be in the prequels. I used this:
"Palpatine Didn't Need To Secretly Prepare Anakin".

For the Logging Levels I've been using this:

Discord Debug
In Information
NOC Notification
When Warning
Ernest Error
Causes Critical
An Alarm
Emergency Emergency

I need a better one for the OSPF States, this is kind of dark:

OSPF IPv6 LSA Types :

Routing Networks Is Indeed A Great New Learning Initiative
Router LSA – Network LSA – InterArea Prefix LSA – InterArea Router LSA – AS External LSA –
Group Membership LSA – NSSA LSA (Not so stubby Area) – Link LSA – IntraArea Prefix LSA

You know, the FTP, SSH and TELNET are alphabetical right. Much easier for me to remember.

FTP 21
SSH 22
TEL 23

Alphabetical and in order.

The one for binary class boundaries does not work here in Germany: our power lines are at 220V
instead of 110V ...
Syslog Severity & level

Do you know what “Emacewnid” is; it’s a word which will help you
to easily remember syslog Severity & levels.

4 Warning w
5 Notice n
