Abstract for Bevel Gear Operated Bi-Cycle

Aim:

To modify the pedaling operation of existing Bi-cycle by using Bevel

Gear.

Introduction:

Generally Bi-cycles were been pedaled with the help of chain and
sprocket attachments, once if we put this attachments for long duration of
use the parts get worn-out and it leads to the replacement of new ones.
Also slip will occur with chain, to rectify these problems we decided to
adopt bevel gear attachment instead of chain and sprocket.

The concept used is to attach a pair of bevel gears at the right end of
pedaling shaft, with the same process another set of bevel gears are been
attached at the right side of back wheel shaft, after fixing the gears a
communication is needed between these two set of bevel gears for that
purpose a shaft is used to transmit power from pedaling shaft to the shaft
of back wheel.

Bevel Wheels:

Bevel gears is used for the transmission of power between shafts,

lying in the same plane, whose axes would intersect if produced.

The pitch surfaces of two bevel wheels in gear are frusta of two right
cones in contact, having a common vertex O at the point of intersection of
the axes of the shafts.

Bevel Gearing:

Two bevel gears in mesh is known as bevel gearing. In bevel gearing,

the pitch cone angles of the pinion and gear are to be determined from the
shaft angle, that is the angle between the intersecting shafts.

By using the general calculations of bevel gears, no of teeth will be decided.
