RULES FOR CLASSIFICATION OF

Naval Surface Craft

A complete list of current rule chapters including revision dates is presented in Pt.0 Ch.1 Sec.2. The listing
below contains only chapters that are new, deleted or changed in this revision of the rules.

Part 0 Chapter 1 USER INFORMATION, CURRENT RULE CHAPTERS AND INDEX


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• Sec.2 Current rule chapters
— Table 1 “Current rule chapters” has been updated with the correct revision dates.

Part 1 Chapter 1 GENERAL REGULATIONS


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• Sec.1 Classification principles
— A201: The term “board” has been changed to “appropriate approval body”.
— Previous A208 has been deleted and succeeding items have been renumbered.

Part 2 Chapter 1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MATERIALS

• Sec.1 Manufacture, survey and certification
— B302: New text has been added.
— C204: Guidance note has been added.
• Sec.2 Testing procedures
— B101: Symbol list has been amended.
— B105 and B106: Symbol lists have been deleted.
— B106: Fig.1 has been amended.
— B111 has been deleted.
— New item B204 has been added.
— B600: New text has been added.
— New sub-section element B700 has been added.

Part 2 Chapter 2 METALLIC MATERIALS


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• General
— Added full text description of Fracture Mechanics (FM) test in line with DNV-OS-
C401.
— Minor change in the wording to be given on the certificates by the manufacturer.
— Added requirements for “brittle crack arrest” steels (qualified by ESSO test) in line
with IACS UR S33 and W31.
— Added requirements for corrosion resistant steels for cargo oil tanks in line with
IACS UR W30.
— Clarification of press weld testing test extent for structure not affecting the global
strength of the vessel.

• Sec.1 Rolled steel for structural application


— Item A902 has been clarified and reference to standard corrected.
— Item A1202: Re-phrased the wording to be given on the certificate by the
manufacturer.
— Item D101: Guidance note referring to grade NV 47 has been added in line with
IACS UR W31.
— Table D1 and D2: NV 47 steels added.
— Item D402: CTOD test requirements for NV47 have been added in line with IACS
UR W31.
— Item E101: Z-grade steel is required for NV47 grades.
— Sub-section F: Added requirements for brittle crack arrest steels in line with IACS
UR S33.
— Sub-section G: Added requirements for corrosion resistant steels for cargo oil tanks
in line with IACS UR W30.
• Sec.5 Steel forgings
— Tables B2, C2, F2 and G2: “Yield stress Re” changed to “Yield stress ReH or Rp0.2”.
• Sec.7 Steel castings
— Tables B2, C2, E2 and F2: “Yield stress Re” changed to “Yield stress Rp0.2”.
• Sec.9 Aluminium alloys
— Item A801: Clarification of press weld testing test extent for structure not affecting
the global strength of the vessel.
— Item A803 has been clarified.
— Item A1002 has been amended, new item A1003 added and Table A5 deleted.
Aligned with IACS UR W24.
• Sec.10 Copper alloy castings
— Sub-section element C900: Requirements for welding procedure deleted, covered by
Ch.3 Sec.5.
• Sec.11 Non-ferrous tubes
— Previous item A201 has been deleted. A202 renumbered A201 accordingly.

Part 2 Chapter 3 FABRICATION AND TESTING OF SHIPS


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• General
The update has been done to:
— incorporate requirements to steel plates with thickness over 50 mm, of steel grades
NV 36, NV 40 and NV 47
— give additional requirements to steel plates with thickness over 50 mm, of steel
grade NV 47.
In addition a general update of the document has been done.
• Sec.4 Welding consumables
— New item A202 has been added containing requirements related to welding
consumables for duplex steels.
— Table A6 has been amended. Added consumables selection for NV 47 steels.
• Sec.5 Welding procedures
— A301: Added abbreviations for MIG, MAG and TIG.
— B101: Added “throat thickness range for fillet weld”, “gas purity”, and
“temperature, time” for PWHT.
— B203: New list item added: “All welds on grade NV 47 steels for container vessel”.
— C106: Added requirements for hardness test of NV 47 steels.
— C107: Text has been amended to give clearer description of specimen position.
Requirements moved from previous 108.
— New item C109 regarding fracture mechanics testing to be alignment with CN30.10
and IACS UR W31 / EFN12-331 has been added

— New item C303 regarding additional butt weld qualification to be aligned with ISO
15614-1 has been added.
— C502: A new list item aligned with ISO 15614-1 has been added.
— E302: A new list item has been added with requirements for NV 47. Alignment with
CN30.10 and IACS UR W31
— New sub-section E600: Added acceptance criteria for CTOD test. Alignment with
CN30.10 and IACS UR W31.
— Table F1 has been amended. Note 6 and 7 have been added.
• Sec.6 Fabrication and tolerances
— New item E315 with additional requirements for NV 47 steels has been added.

Part 4 Chapter 8 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS


Amendments January 2014
• Sec.1 Service Description
— In Table B3 the required certificate for generators and transformers above 300 kVA
has been corrected to “DNV product certificate”.

Part 5 Chapter 4 CREW BOATS


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• General
Sections and sub-sections have been restructured.
• Sec.1 General regulations
— A200: Reference to Cargo notation has been removed.
— A402: Design acceleration factor has been clarified.
• Sec.2 Class requirements
— Sub-section A: Requirements on cargo decks and carriage of containers have been
added.
— B600 and B700: Editorial changes have been made.
— C500 and C600: Requirements for weather and watertight doors and hatches have
been clarified.
— Sub-section H: Requirements for cargo handling systems have been added.
• Sec.3 Safety requirements
— Sub-section D: Requirements to Life Saving Appliances have been added.

Part 6 Chapter 13 GAS FUELLED SHIP INSTALLATIONS


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• Sec.1 General requirements
— Documentation requirements in Table C1 have been updated and readability has
been improved.

Part 6 Chapter 27 RECYCLING


Main changes January 2014, entering into force 1 July 2014
• General
— Updated IMO reference to be in line with the Hong Kong Convention Res. 197(62).
— Introduce requirement for a maintenance manual with processes for in service
follow-up to be submitted for approval.
— Introduce requirement for unambiguous numbering to verify IHM vs. Certificate.
— Various editorial updates.
— Ships in Operation has been changed to Vessels in Operation
