Hand and Wheel Section A AC1AS19

Learn to use the pottery wheel in this beginning class 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
that covers bowls, plates, and cups. Students learn basic Maeve Mueller
handbuilding techniques to broaden the scope of possible
projects. Specific pieces are demonstrated each week to Section B AC1BS19
continue challenging even experienced students while Wed Apr 3 - May 29
allowing for self-exploration and the development of (No class Apr 17)

Students learn a variety of ceramic techniques in this (No class Apr 15, May 27)
fascinating class designed for those who love art and 6:30 - 9:30 pm
nature! Participants explore planter design, modular Nina Berinstein
sculpture and more. Demonstrations include slab
construction, coil building, pinching, wheel, and more! M/$265 NM/$280
Students may create both sculptural and functional
projects throughout the course, with many opportunities
to act on their own inspiration. Price includes 25 pounds
of clay to get started, plus all glazing and firing. Additional

Open Studio Add-On APPLICATION ONLY
Adult | Ceramics
M/$150 NM/$150
Open Studio time is a great way for current clay students to
spend additional time developing and honing their ceramic
skill. This opportunity is only open to currently enrolled MCA
ceramics students. Open Studio hours are supervised by
knowledgeable studio monitors, but formal instruction is not
included. Attendance is tracked by student sign in. Students
may use as few or as many of the scheduled hours as they
like during a given session. Open Studio time is purchased
on a term-length basis. Glaze and firing costs are included
with open studio fee; however additional clay must be
purchased from studio monitors as needed. Hours vary, but
generally include at least one evening, one weekday, and one
weekend day per week (approximately 20 hours per week
available). The schedule will be updated weekly and sent

Independent Study APPLICATION ONLY


Adult | Ceramics
M/$205 NM/$220
Independent Study is an opportunity for artists with previous
ceramic experience to continue practicing and expanding
their skill on their own without the formal instruction offered
by a class. To qualify for Independent Study, you must have
skill in handbuilding and/or wheel. Students will not receive
any formal instruction and should be knowledgeable about
clay and glaze techniques as well as safety. Glaze and firing
costs are included with Independent Study fee; however
all clay (both terracotta and stoneware available) must be
purchased from studio monitors as needed. Hours vary, but
generally include at least one evening, one weekday, and one
weekend day per week (approximately 20 hours per week
available). The schedule will be updated weekly and sent

This class is geared towards watercolorists and other (No class Apr 16)
painters looking to improve their painting technique and 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
create sparkling, spontaneous work consistently and Cathy Garnett
with confidence. Participants focus on composition and
effective use of value, color, and a variety of glazing and M/$200 NM/$215
painting approaches for impact without being limited to
depicting reality. Demonstrations, individual instruction,
and critiques are included. Subjects vary and students
may work on suggested projects or one of their own

Brush Up! Beginning Acrylic Painting AP2S19

Students engage with exercises in value, hue and chroma (No class Apr 17)
to gain familiarity and confidence with color, composition, 9:00 - 11:30 am
and brushwork. Whether drawing inspiration from a Marta Kaemmer
family photo, fresh fruit in a still life, or the light on a
particular morning, participants will have the opportunity M/$200 NM/$215
to express themselves in paint. Basic drawing skills
recommended, but not required. Materials list will be

Beginning and Continuing Acrylic Painting AP3S19

Paint with acrylics in this class for all levels of painters. (No class Apr 18)
Beginning students embark in exercises exploring color, 6:30 - 9:00 pm
value, and composition. Intermediate students work on Marta Kaemmer

This is the perfect course for adults who have always (No class Apr 18)
wanted to explore mark making. Students study a wide 9:00 - 11:30 am
range of materials from charcoal to a variety of drawing Zoe Schein
pencils. They also explore the impact of playing with the
scale of their work, incorporating their whole body into M/$200 NM/$215
the drawing process. Students experiment with various
drawing styles from abstraction to realism. Sources of
inspiration include live models, still life, imagination,
graphic novels, and contemporary artists. Materials list

critiques, and enjoy a community of mark makers! No

Explore the many aspects of drawing including abstract (No class May 25)
mark making, drawing what you see, and drawing from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
imagination. Use different drawing tools such as marker, Cat Bennett
crayon, pastels, brush and paint in order to create
contour, blind contour, and shaded drawings. Participants M/$125 NM/$135
collage drawings together and make images from painted
paper as they draw nature, people and still lives using
tools of color, black and white, shapes and lines. A
hallmark of the class is learning from professional artists
who are working in the same vein. All skill levels are
welcome. Materials supplied by the instructor. Materials
fee of $25 will be collected on the first day of class.

Interested in the craft of graphic storytelling? Participants (No class Apr 18)
in this class create dynamic, engaging comics through the 6:30 - 9:00 pm
study of figure and environmental drawing, layout design, Zoe Schein
and other essential elements of visual story. Together
the class explores strategies for creating characters, M/$200 NM/$215
drawing figures and expressions to communicate story
and emotion, designing a page, and framing scenes to
create compelling graphic narratives. Participants read
and analyze professional comics to learn from the masters,
and use that knowledge to build comics from thumbnails
to complete, inked and colored pages. True or invented,
silly or sad, students learn the tools they need to bring their
stories to life on the page. No prior drawing experience
required—all skill levels are encouraged to enroll! Materials

Big Print Masterclass Section A APR1AS19

Not for the timid! This class will take you through the Julia Talcott
concept, creation, and printing of a large print (at least two
feet square). For 5 classes participants work with chisels, Section B APR1BS19
power tools and more to create an image on an oversize Wed May 8 - June 5
piece of wood or linoleum. The class will culminate with 6:30 - 9:00 pm
an all day steamroller printing event in which participants Julia Talcott
print plates during the Arts for All Festival, June 8. All

Modern Calligraphy AW1S19

Make words both beautiful and meaningful with your own 6:30 - 9:30 pm
personally calligraphy. Participants in this new workshop TBD
experiment with pointed pens to create lettering that
is elegant and bold. Learn the basics of hand lettering M/$75 NM/$90
then move on to variations which give a unique twist to
traditional calligraphy. In addition to live demonstrations,
participants receive a calligraphy tool kit to take home and
a packet of resources for putting those new skills to use!

Go big! Dig deep! Spend an entire day working on one 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
painting in an immersive way. We’ll provide a large still Marta Kaemmer
life for inspiration or you may work on your own subject
matter. Take a day to really focus on your art in a way that M/$115 NM/$130
you just can’t achieve in a shorter span of time.

Holiday parties, baby showers, birthday parties, wedding showers, girls’ nights out,
bachelor or bachelorette parties are all possible at the Mosesian Center for the Arts!
Talented instructors will work directly with you to create a unique project that fits
the needs and wants of your group in a relaxed, creative environment. Choose from
projects such as clay sculpture, drawing, printmaking, jewelry making, felting and more!
All art materials included. Cost is $200 for members, $220 for non-members, for a
party of up to 10. Each additional guest up to 20 total guests is $12. Contact the Visual

ONSTAGE!
WCT’s 2018-2019 season features eight productions that offer
participants of all ages the opportunity to work as part of an ensemble,
gain confidence, and take pride in their accomplishments as they hone
advanced skills in singing, acting, and movement/dance. Parents/
Guardians join the fun as they work together on offstage committees to
help bring the production to life. Each Onstage program culminates in a
fully staged production for the public.

Like an artery bringing fuel to the body, MCA’s ARTery program serves as a way for
teens to fuel their own passions for the world of art. ARTery students will have the
opportunity to explore many aspects of the professional art world. Active ARTery
students receive priority interning opportunities with MCA art programs, work
alongside professional artists, administrators, and educators, and receive opportunities
(based on skill level) to participate in exhibitions and student programs throughout the
year.

WHAT IS A WILDCARD ACTIVITY?


The Wildcard Activity is a chance for students to self-select an art or performance-
based elective that they do not generally get to experience during their day!
Students will choose their Wildcard Activity at the beginning of the week and get
the chance to learn a fun new skill in mixed-age groups of students.

GUIDE TO SUMMER K-2 PROGRAMS

ArtVenturers: Each week, ArtVenturers explore a theme through theatre, visual arts,
and music! In this integrated arts program, participants rotate daily through these
three creative components, as they collaborate on a showcase that combines all of
their artistic experiences.

Broadway Bootcamp Junior*: Broadway Bootcamp Junior is a new, exciting


opportunity for our youngest students to collaborate as an ensemble towards the
production of a musical! Participants in this two-week intensive program will develop
musical theatre performance skills, design their own sets and props, and build
confidence, creativity, and teamwork, culminating a performance at the end of the
second week.
*NOTE: This program is for grades K-3.

Tiny Triple Threats: Sing! Dance! Design! In Tiny Triple Threats, our youngest
participants get a chance to experience the many aspects of theatrical production.
During their day, participants rotate through singing and dancing, artwork and
design, and acting programs, as they work together to combine these into a one-of-
a-kind mini-performance.

Story Explorers: In Story Explorers, participants rotate through three programs as


they explore new media through the lens of their favorite stories. They engage their
imaginations and hands to make several pieces of literature-related art and have the
opportunity to dramatize a familiar story through acting, song and dance to bringing
their artwork to life!

stage in new and creative ways. This musical intensive will have participants singing,
dancing, and acting their way to a performance on August 16. In addition to playing a

This smash hit summer program is an exciting opportunity to mount a musical on the
MainStage in just two weeks! Oh my god, you guys! Join the cast of the fun and fresh
musical Legally Blonde Jr., a sassy story that smashes stereotypes as pink purses and
Harvard law briefcases collide! This musical intensive will have participants singing,
dancing, and acting their way to a performance on August 30. In addition to playing a

sharpen their performance skills as they collaborate towards a fully-staged performance
of Chicago on our MainStage! Participants in this three-week program will focus
intensively on character creation, text analysis, musicality and movement, culminating
in a performance on Thursday August 1 at 7 pm. This is an application-based program.

Enjoy a theatre or visual arts birthday party at the Mosesian Center for the Arts and
Watertown Children’s Theatre! Theatre party themes include Broadway, Circus, Fairy Tale
Frenzy, and Showtime! Visual art party projects include clay sculpture, drawing, printmaking,
jewelry making, glass fusing and more! All art materials included. Cost is $200 for members,
$220 for non-members, for a party of up to 10. Some party themes such as Broadway and
clay require additional resources, and cost $300 for members, $320 for non-members.

Screenwriter) and Seniors (Collage, Photography, Textile, Troupe Performer), as well as

Student Matinee Performances


Watertown Children’s Theatre is happy to offer student matinee performances of our Black
Box Series productions for visiting school groups, a valuable opportunity for schools in our
community to bring their students to see educational, high-quality theatre, done by student
performers, at reduced prices. The experience includes a Study Guide sent prior to the
performance, with activities and information to engage students in the classroom before
and after attending, as well as a talk-back with the cast and crew immediately following
the performance, a chance for students in the audience to ask questions and engage in a
