Instructions:
1. The following virtual slides demonstrates some of the pathologies associated with cell reaction
to injury
2. The slides are grouped into 1) cell adaptation 2) cell injury 3) necrosis and 4) intracellular
accumulation
3. Recognize and describe the essential histologic features of these entities
4. Predict the possible pathophysiologic effects of these lesions to the cells affected and/or the
immediate surrounding unaffected cells
5. List the more common causes of these pathologies.
Cell adaptation
1. 3687A1 – Hypertrophy, heart
2. uihc_s2 – Atrophy of skeletal muscle
3. 4048 – Hyperplasia of endometrium
4. 4922 – Metaplasia of esophageal epithelium
Cell injury
1. d2 – Fatty change, liver
Necrosis
1. 16b – Coagulative necrosis, heart
2. 4918a – Liquefactive necrosis, brain
3. au105 – Caseous necrosis, lung
Intracellular Accumulation
1. au167 – Anthracosis, bronchial lymph node
