I expect my students to learn and grow over the course of this school year. They will be
challenged to think outside the box and to apply what they learn to real-world situations. This
disclosure statement provides all the necessary information for my class’s students and their
parents.
Students will understand that mathematics is essential to each career they will pursue and how to
use it to achieve their dreams. Essential questions are: Why do we use numbers? How can I plan
for my financial future? Is the future unknowable?
CLASS RULES: We live in a democracy. So, rules will be decided in class. I will send a copy
of the rules home with each student once they have been made. Students will follow class rules at
all times, but they may suggest they be changed. School rules cannot be changed and must
always be followed.
GRADING POLICY:
Attendance – 15%
Regular attendance is required for workers in all fields; therefore, it is required in this class.
Students learn from each other, and if you are absent, you are missing out on opportunities to
learn and/or teach. This is the foundation of this class, so attendance is mandatory.
Students should be on time and remain for the entire class. They will work to solve
mathematics problems at the beginning and end of the class period. These are graded on
completion and effort and not on correctness.
Notes – 20%
Students will take notes in my class, and I will direct what notes to take and how. Notebooks
will be provided, but students must bring their own pencils. Notes will be turned in for me to
review every two weeks and are graded on completion.
There will not be very much homework, but there will almost always be small group activities
where students learn and teach each other how to use mathematics. It is required that students
participate and work together so we all can learn.
Students will have time to work on projects and prepare for tests in class. These are graded
according to rubrics that will be provided.
LATE WORK: Students may turn in late work for full credit up until the week before
grading is locked. However, tests cannot be retaken. I cannot accept work later than that
because I need time to grade it. There is no extra credit.
