6 1897: Large 30 cents on 2nd Dowager 24 c. deep rose-red, 2 1/2 mm. spacing, a superb used
example on 1899 registered cover to the Office of Works in Shanghai tied by bold strike of
"TAKU-May 27" datestamp in black. Large "R" for registration at left and manuscript docket
number, reverse with Shanghai cds of receipt (May 31) and squared circle "Registered-
Shanghai". A marvellous and attractive cover with a very scarce single franking.

11A 1898: Cover, some minor ageing, mailed to Solesmes / France franked on reverse with 1897
4 c. on 4 cs. rose-pink in a horizontal pair and 1897 1 c. on 3 c. red revenue in a marginal
horizontal pair all tied by extremely rare "HANGCHOW" Dollar chops in black, the red
revenue pair being tied by "Shanghai" Dollar chop of transit (July 1). Obverse of cover
with 'Chine' overprinted France 25 c. black on rose appplied for onwards transmission and
a superb impression of the "HANGCHOW" Dollar chop. Magnificent and extremely rare
cover, one of only two recorded covers bearing a red revenue cancelled by the Hangchow

"Boston Am. Pkt.-Paid" cds (July 29) alongside red "21 Cents" credit marking. A delightful

and Marseilles to Langnau, Switzerland; franked by Hong Kong 1863 4 c. grey, 12 c. pale
blue and 24 c. pale green all tied by "B62" obliterators in black and by red manuscript 1/8 d.
docketing (erased), struck with both red unframed "P.P." and framed "P.D." in black; carried
on French Steamer and with red entry mark of Marseilles on front (July 25). Reverse with
Hong Kong cds (June 8), Pontarlier cds (June 26), Bern and Langnau cds's. A marvellous

(Dec 24) and Lyon arrival cds (Feb 1). Some negligible creasing to outer letter sheet but a

93 1898: The extraordinary cover to Boston, USA with early typed address, franked by Japan
1888/92 10 sen red brown, marginal example from left of sheet, cancelled (contrary to
regulations stating that Western letter cancels be used) with bold strike of native "TAIPEI-
TAIWAN" datestamp in black (Dwa Dyou Dyoung-Meiji 31). Reverse with Yokohama
transit cds (July 15) and Boston arrival (Aug 7). A very rare and fine cover. 79 6 1'000 (€ 730 )
94 1888/2002: Collection with several hundred stamps mint and used, incl. better values, full
