Update and Installation Instructions

1. Overview

This document provides instructions for how to update to ESA4 5.X from a previous
version of ESA. This document also provides instructions on performing a full installation
of ESA on a system that does not have ESA installed.

2. Prerequisites for Updating to ESA 4

1. PC with a supported operating environment (Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8,

Windows 10)
2. PC with at least 700 MB free space
3. Data Link Adapter with drivers installed (NEXIQ USB Link 2 recommended; see
www.nexiq.com to download the appropriate drivers)
4. Internet access from the PC
5. Administrative Rights on the PC
6. ESA license key (license key can be found at https://eportal.paccar.com/esa/default.aspx)
7. An e-portal user account and password

ESA4 5.X has prerequisite software. If any of these prerequisites are not installed before
attempting to update, a full installation will be required. See Section 5 for more details on
the prerequisites and installation wizard.

3. Update ESA on System with Previous Installation of ESA

1. From within ESA, go to Tools -> Check for Update.

2. When prompted, enter the e-portal username and password for the license you
are using.
3. If the ESA installation isn’t updated, an Updates Available button will be enabled
on the ESA button bar.
4. Click the Updates Available button.
5. ESA should display as one of the options to download. Select ESA and click
Download to begin downloading the update.
6. Once the download has completed, accept the prompt to apply updates now.
7. ESA will shut down and the update installation will begin.

ESA4 5.X has new prerequisite software. If any of these prerequisites are not installed
before attempting to update, a full installation will be required. See Section 5 for more
details on the prerequisites and installation wizard.

8. Once the updates are applied, ESA will finish starting up and prompt you to re-
activate your license.
9. Accept the prompt to activate your license.
10. Enter the e-portal username and password for the license you are using.
11. Your ESA installation is activated when you receive the message stating that you
are up to date and the Connect button will appear enabled.
12. You can verify the version by clicking Help -> About.
4. Full Installation (If Necessary)

1. Attempt to update ESA using the steps outlined in Section 3 of this document.
2. If unable to update ESA for a reason other than missing prerequisites, document the
reason of failure, inform Dealer Services, and continue with these installation procedures.
3. You can download the latest build released by copying the following link into the address
bar of your web browser and clicking Go. (This process works better than using a link
from within this document).

When prompted, save the .zip file to a non-encrypted directory.

4. Extract the contents of the .zip file to the default location.
5. Run the Setup.exe that you extracted from the downloaded package.

(Section 5 contains more details on the installation wizard)

6. After ESA installation is complete, double-click the ESA shortcut on your Desktop.
7. ESA first comes up to the Administration Form. Enter a license Key (license key can be
found at https://eportal.paccar.com/esa/default.aspx).
8. Select the Manufacturer for the ESA theme and the DLA that you will use.
9. Click OK.
10. When prompted, enter the e-portal username and password associated with the license
key you are using.
11. If you are using a license for an external user then you are done. Otherwise continue with
the next step.
12. Using a license of an internal user causes the Administration Form to appear with the
Internal tab displayed. Choose the settings you want on the Internal tab and click OK.

5. Installation Wizard (Reference)

ESA4 5.X has prerequisites for installation:

- Visual C++ Runtime 2005

- Visual C++ Runtime 2008
- Visual C++ Runtime 2010
- .NET 4.7 Framework

If any of these prerequisites are missing when attempting to upgrade ESA 4 as described in
Section 3, the installation wizard will notify the user (screen shot below). The full installation
will need to be downloaded and installed. Please follow the instructions in Section 4 for a
full installation.

The user may decide to install each prerequisite before running the ESA setup using the links
provided below:

Once the full installation is started, the user will be presented with links to install the missing
prerequisite software (if applicable).
Once prerequisites are installed, the ESA installation wizard will begin.
