HOSPITAL
A hospital is a health care institution providing patient treatment by specialized staff and
equipment. Hospital organization is today an essential part of the medical care scheme.
Owing to the increasing complexity of the medical science. It is very necessary that medical
practioners and specialist should be able to rely on a sound hospital services. Furthermore the
modern hospital plays an important and active role in health and social welfare programs and
influences economic development.

 Both the administration and physical are becoming important to the hospital and
studies have to be done for proper functioning and for providing facilities in hospital.
 A good architecture can moreover, contribute to an agreeable, orderly and well
maintained environment, such as lighting, color, landscape, noise etc.

HISTORY
The late 19th century, the modern hospital was beginning to take shape with a
proliferation of a variety of public and private hospital systems. By the 1870s, hospitals
had more than trebled their original average intake of 3,000 patients. In continental
Europe the new hospitals generally were built and run from public funds. The National
Health Service, the principle provider of health care in the United Kingdom, was founded
in 1948.

HOSPITAL CLASSIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION CAN BE BASED ON:-

1. PRIMARY CARE FACILITIES: - A network of primary health care facilities
support up to 6 sub centers or field units, creating to a population of about 1000000.
2. SECONDARY CARE FACILITIES: - These are generally district level hospital. A
district hospital typically is the major health care facility in its region, with large
numbers of beds for intensive care and long-term care.
3. TERTIARY HOSPITAL: - Tertiary medical cares provide superior level, super
specialties to the patient referred from secondary level facilities.

CATEGORY
Indian standard provide function planning norms for five categories of hospital A to E
which are following are-

1. Category A 25-50 beds

2. Category B 51-100 beds
3. CATEGORY C 100-300 BEDS
4. Category D 300-500 beds
5. Category E 500-700 beds

NEED OF THE HOSPITAL

 The growth in the healthcare services in the country is driven by the 350 million
strong middle class people aspiring for quality healthcare, services, thus increasing
international confidence on India as a potential, high quality and low cast medical
tourism destination.
 India is one of the fastest developing economics of the world and 44% of the
population lives in urban areas in below poverty line. Statistics says about one fifth of
the live in slums most of the health problem in India are generated from these slum
only.
 India has one of the poorest records in health care costs by the government both in
terms of the real cost and in terms of percent of the total care costs.

REASON FOR SELECTING TOPIC

 One of the major reasons for taking up this topic that it is the need of the time.
 Another reason is to understand the hospital services.
 Designing of these building types requires knowledge of services various spatial
requirements and there inter – relationship, different categories. Designing all these
requirement will be challenge for an architect so accepting these challenge I decide to
take up this topic for my thesis.
 As a thesis point of view, It covers all the aspects of design Such as:

• STRUCTURE SERVICE FOLLOWED BYE NORMS.

VALIDITY
 The master layout plan is developed by HUDA.
 It is proposed by Haryana urban development authority.
 It provided health facility.
 An education city focusing on high class education in different fields like
management, law, architecture, many more, needs to have an hospital.
 It is well connected with NH-I highway close to Delhi less pollution area and
surrounding having commercial building.

AIM
 To create a conducive environment for the patients.

OBJECTIVE
 Hospital may be define as a building in which patients are cared for nursed and
treated. A hospital is created to satisfy medical and spatial needs, which sometimes
are partially known and after completion of the building are still subjected to change.
 The main aspects that gain important in hospital planning are grouping and integration
of department’s proper organization of traffic and provision of flexibility and growth.
 To make it aesthetically appealing and functionally fulfilled.
 Try to re-establish design that takes the patient's psychological needs into account,
such as providing more fresh air, better views and more pleasant color schemes.

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:-

 The main hospital building in itself is a complex requirements, inter-relationships
service and planning aspects. Thus in the design the main block of the hospital
building is developed to detail while provision is made for residential area on a zoing
level.
 The main traffic route and access are identified in relation to the site and surrounding.
