Virginia Jewish Advocacy Day

Every year the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater
Washington participates in Jewish Advocacy Day in Richmond, Jewish
organizations from around the state send advocates to speak with legislators during
the General Assembly. On Wednesday, February 6 a dedicated group from Agudas
Achim took buses from Northern Virginia, heard from the Governor, Lieutenant
Governor and Attorney General and lobbied our state representatives on a range of
issues including combating bias, preventing gun violence, faith community issues,
and criminal justice reform. Finally, we asked each legislator we visited to sign on

Descendants of Abraham: Muslim-Jewish Conversation
Based on the extraordinary response and interest at the Celebrating Sisterhood
December Brunch featuring the Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom, the Social Action
Committee reached out to Dar Al Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church to build on
and continue this kind of interfaith conversation. On Sunday afternoon, February 24,
AAC congregants welcomed our Muslim neighbors for a conversation on “Love and
Relationships: Dating, Marriage and Divorce.” Using texts from the Torah and
Quran as a jumping off point for interfaith dialogue, we explored each other’s
culture, customs and traditions. Samara Weinstein and Sharita Cooper
begin the show.
Join the second Muslim-Jewish Conversation on Sunday, April 28 at the Dar
Al-Hijrah Islamic Center. At this second session participants will discuss “Food and
Fasting: Kosher and Halal.” For more information, please contact Samara Weinstein
