Climate change: “a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change

apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels
of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels.” Dictionary.com

Greenhouse gasses: “a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect by absorbing infrared
radiation, e.g., carbon dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons.” Dictionary.com

Fossil Fuels: : “a fuel formed in the earth from plant or animal remains” Merriam-Webster.com

Greenhouse effects: “the trapping of the sun's warmth in a planet's lower atmosphere, caused
by the greater amount of transparency of the atmosphere to visible radiation from the sun than
to infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface.” Dictionary. com

Pollution: “The introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has harmful or
poisonous effects.” Dictonary.com

Methane impact: “ If methane leaks into the air before being used– it absorbs the sun's heat,
warming the atmosphere. For this reason, it's considered a greenhouse gas, like carbon
dioxide.”edf.org

Climate Change History: “Most of the increase in global temperature observed over the past fifty
years is very likely due to human emissions of greenhouse gases. The temperatures of the last
half century are unusual in comparison with those of at least the previous 1300 years. The last
time that the polar regions remained significantly warmer than now for a very extended period
(125,000 years ago), the sea level rose by 4 to 6 meters.” eea.europa.e

Natural Causes: “Forces that contribute to climate change include the sun’s intensity, volcanic
eruptions, and changes in naturally occurring greenhouse gas concentrations. But records
indicate that today’s climatic warming—is occurring much faster than ever before and can’t be
explained by natural causes alone.” nrdc.org

Greenhouse gases:“any of various gaseous compounds that absorb infrared radiation, trap heat
in the atmosphere, and contribute to the greenhouse effect” merriam-webster.com

Human activities: particularly the combustion of fossil fuels, are altering the climate system.

Human-driven changes: land use and land cover such as deforestation, urbanization, and shifts
in vegetation patterns also alter the climate, resulting in changes to the reflectivity of the Earth
surface (albedo), emissions from burning forests, urban heat island effects and changes in the
natural water cycle.

Because the primary cause of recent global climate change is human, the solutions are also
within the human domain.

Because we understand the causes of climate change, that paves the way for effective solutions
to be developed and deployed.

Human Impact: Human impact on the environment or anthropogenic impact on the environment
includes changes to biophysical environments and ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural
resources caused directly or indirectly by humans, including global warming, and environmental
degradation. Wikipedia.com

Recently, scientists discovered at least three to six times more heat-spewing thermal vents
along the seafloors where tectonic plates are pulling apart. In 2003, at least nine hydrothermal
vents along the Gakkel Ridge in the Arctic Ocean were found by Climatologist Cliff Harris and
Meteorologist Randy Mann

Over the past 50 years, solar energy reaching the Earth has actually declined slightly, while
temperatures have increased dramatically. From Carbon Brieff

“Human influence on the climate system is clear, and recent anthropogenic emissions of
greenhouse gases are the highest in history. […] Warming of the climate system is unequivocal,
and since the 1950s, many of the observed changes are unprecedented over decades to
millennia.” Quote by scientist on ucsusa.org

“Scientists know that certain gases trap heat and act like a blanket to warm the planet. One of
the most important is carbon dioxide (CO2), which we release into the atmosphere when we
burn fossil fuels — oil, coal, and natural gas — to generate electricity, power our vehicles, and
heat our homes.” ucsusa.org

“Scientists can conclusively identify that human activity is responsible for the observed increase
in CO2. How? The carbon dioxide emitted by burning coal, natural gas, and oil has a unique
chemical “fingerprint" — and the additional CO2 in the atmosphere bears that signature.”

“97% of climate scientists agree that climate change is real and man-made.” fraserinstitute.org

“The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit (1.1 degrees
Celsius) since the late 19th century
The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.9
degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon
dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere.4 Most of the warming occurred
in the past 35 years, with the five warmest years on record taking place since 2010. Not only
was 2016 the warmest year on record, but eight of the 12 months that make up the year — from
January through September, with the exception of June — were the warmest on record for
those respective months” nasa.com

“According to Senate testimony by William Happer, PhD, Professor of Physics at Princeton

University, "[a]dditional increments of CO2 will cause relatively less direct warming because we
already have so much CO2 in the atmosphere that it has blocked most of the infrared radiation
that it can” procon.com

According to a 2012 study published in the Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial

Physics, "up to 70% of the observed post-1850 climate change and warming could be
associated to multiple solar cycles."
Procon.com

According to the Heartland Institute's 2013 NIPCC report, the earth "has not warmed
significantly for the past 16 years despite an 8% increase in atmospheric CO2."

“Between 1995-2015 increased hurricane activity (including Katrina) was recorded, however,
according to the NOAA, it was not the result of human-induced climate change; it was the result
of cyclical tropical cyclone patterns, driven primarily by natural ocean currents.”
While methane doesn't linger as long in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, it is initially far more
devastating to the climate because of how effectively it absorbs heat.

In the first two decades after its release, methane is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
We must address both types of emissions if we want to effectively reduce the impact of climate
change.edf.org

“Forests cover about 30% of the world’s land area and large patches of forests are lost every
year due to deforestation. If current rate of deforestation continue, there will be no more
rainforests in 100 years. It is estimated that due to cutting and burning of forests every year,
more than 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere”eartheclips.com
