1. What is the role of Indigenous Media in Information Resource?

Indigenous media is mainly used as a vehicle of communication by indigenous people.

This is the medium by which information is acquired and disseminated by the people around
the old generation. However, this media is neither documented nor encoded. For instance is
the ‘word of mouth’ which is used by the past generation to preserve the people’s
information such as their culture and traditions.

2. What are the types of information that is received and pass on the community?

Indigenous Media and Information is received and pass on the community. These are
any information created by the local people which are distributed and passed on through any
form of indigenous media or through forms of communication unique to their group.

3. How is the type of information be helpful to the community? In what ways does
passing on this information help the community?

Indigenous media is a vehicle that local people used to share stories about their
cultures, languages, perspectives, opinions and histories (indigenous information). This kind
information help the indigenous people live a life with literacy and eradicating oblivion within
the community. Passing this information from one person to another is a founding step to
pass the indigenous information from one generation to another. Thus, this helps on
preserving the locals’ way of life and be adapted not only through passage of people but also
in places around the world and the lapses of time.

4. How do you know that the information that is passed on is true?

Indigenous information might be hard to validate since their way of distribution or the
media used, such as the word-of-mouth, might cause change in the info as it is passed on
from one person to another. However, today’s generation have already studied and verified
the indigenous people’s culture and traditions through researches and expeditions. The
history of the indigenous community can also be proven through artifacts indigenous
artworks, wood carving documentation, cave wall photograph and other sources of history.
5. What are the difficulties in passing on information to others?

As what I have indicated on the previous question, indigenous information might be

difficult to validate since the media used might addend or deduct the passed on information.
For instance is the word-of-mouth. Another hindrance is the local’s lack of literacy in
documenting. The documentation media, such wood carving, might deteriorate in long
passage of time thus changing the subject, text or image.

6. Are these pieces of information available in popular media?

This type information might be old but the new media still gives significance to it like
how it gives significance to today’s way of living. Social media such as Facebook and YouTube
despite its less credibility still manages to promote the local’s traditional talents through videos
and pictures. An online library, such as the World Digital Library and the Google Books, has all
the kind of books related to the indigenous people. Even, newspapers, magazines, and
research papers are all popular medias that can still be a source of an indigenous media and
information.
