To the parents/guardians of English students in Year 10

Dear Parent/Guardian

Theatre Trip to see the National Theatre’s An Inspector Calls

at Wyndhams Theatre, London on Tuesday 26th January 2010
We shall take a party from Year 10 to see an evening performance of the National Theatre’s An
Inspector Calls in London on Tuesday 26th January 2010.

We are very fortunate to secure a limited number of tickets for the extended run of this GCSE English
Literature set play, and it is clearly highly desirable that pupils in Year 10 take this opportunity to see
in performance the text they will be examined on in May 2011. Experiencing live performance is a
vital part of studying English at an advanced level, and in this case we have a chance to enjoy the
ground-breaking production originally directed by Stephen Daldry (whose films include Billy Elliot
and The Hours). The Guardian called it, “Spine-tinglingly good. Wildly imaginative, urgent and
thrilling” and The Daily Mail advised, “A thrilling piece of theatre which must be seen … Don’t dare
miss it.”

Travel will be by coach, leaving the Creffield Road entrance at 4.30pm and returning at about 12.00
midnight (traffic permitting). Students will have an opportunity to phone home if we are delayed on
our return. Dress will be smart, casual clothes; school bags may be brought onto the coach. It would
be wise to bring a packed tea to eat on the coach or once we arrive. It will be possible to buy a
programme and refreshments at the theatre.

The cost for ticket and travel will be £29, payable as a voluntary contribution. Whilst there is no
obligation to attend or to pay, the trip is unlikely to go ahead if all costs cannot be met by parental
contributions.

If you would like your son to attend, please complete the accompanying consent form and return it in
the envelope provided with a cheque for £29 made payable to CRGS. The envelope should be
marked ‘An Inspector Calls Trip’ and be posted in the box by Reception no later than Friday 18th
December 2009. We will operate a waiting list for those who do not initially secure a ticket .

We look forward to seeing students on Tuesday 26th January 2010 for a superb visit to the theatre. If
you have any questions about the visit, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
