March 2010
Travel arrangements
We aim to have luggage loaded ready for a prompt start from the front of the school at
8.00 a.m. on Monday 16th March. We hope to arrive in Slapton between 4-5 p.m., where
an evening meal will be provided. There will be stops along the way where students can
purchase refreshments. Alternatively they may prefer to bring a packed lunch. On the
return journey on Friday 20th we hope to be back at CRGS by 5 p.m. Students might
arrange to phone ahead (e.g. near Brentwood) if they wish to be met.
Indoor shoes.
Adequate changes of clothes for the five days (if we prepare for the worst case scenario,
we may hopefully have sunshine all week!).
Clipboard plus polythene bag to keep papers dry in the event of rain.
Supermarket carrier bags are useful when sitting down on damp ground. Each student is
responsible for the security of personal possessions such as cash, watches, phones,
cameras or mp3 players.
Rules
A copy of the information letter from the centre is attached and students should remember
that they are representing the school at all times. Parents and students are reminded that
the school’s Code of Conduct applies throughout the trip and any misconduct will be dealt
with severely on the party’s return to school. In particular:
Contd/over
1. The possession or use of alcohol or smoking materials is strictly forbidden.
2. Students must not leave the centre grounds during their free/leisure time (9 p.m.-11
p.m.). Visits to the village shop during normal opening hours are the only exception to
the rule.
3. Students must be in their rooms by 11 p.m. and sufficiently quiet so that those in
nearby rooms are not disturbed.
Parents are asked to note that we do not administer medication to students (including
paracetamol). Please ensure that any remedies required are provided. There will be a
member of the centre staff on duty each night along with a rota of CRGS teachers in case
of illness or emergency.
If parents need to contact staff in an emergency, the centre details are given on the
attached sheet. Please note that students and staff will be out all day and working until 9
p.m. each evening.
We hope that students will enjoy and benefit from the course. The work is designed to be
physically and mentally challenging, and academically valuable in the run-up to summer
exams.
Yours sincerely
