Dear Parent/Guardian
The Chemistry Department proposes to take Year 13 Chemistry students to the above one-
day conference in London on Thursday 25th November. The day comprises a series of
entertaining lectures and chemical demonstrations, including the odd small explosion, and
aims to reflect the range of chemistry met at AS and A2 level, as well as emphasising the
role of chemistry in everyday life. The team of distinguished and experienced speakers
includes well-known figures from a range of chemical disciplines, who are leaders in their
particular fields of study.
The students should find the day enjoyable and informative and it should widen their
perspective of chemistry.
The cost of the day, including coach transport, is £29, payable as a voluntary contribution.
Whilst there is no obligation to attend or pay, the trip may not go ahead if we are unable to
meet these costs from voluntary contributions. Please note that there will be only 50
places available on the trip so a prompt reply is required. If you would like a place for your
son/daughter/ward, please return the accompanying consent form with payment by
Monday 18th October at the latest. Cheques should be made payable to Colchester
Royal Grammar School. Please return the payment and form via the letter box outside
reception.
Students will need to make their own arrangements for lunch. There is a café available on
site and a number of shops and cafés in the vicinity of the venue. Alternatively, students
may bring a packed lunch. Students should wear smart casual clothing. The trip will leave
from the Creffield Road entrance at the rear of the school at 8.00 a.m., and we aim to
return to school by 6.30-7.00pm, depending on traffic conditions.
If you consent to your son/daughter/ward travelling home independently after the study
day, please would you indicate this on the consent form. If you have any questions about
the proposed visit, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
