2. Why is there a mismatch in LED color, and/or LED does not blink on my device when
using Light Manager?
It could be due to different LED hardware or firmware not compatible with the Android LED
control API. You can try update to the latest firmware. Else you can use custom color in Light
Manager to find out what color code generates the correct color for your device.

3. Why does Light Manager not work at all on my Samsung device, while others can use
it perfectly?
Go to your phone’s Settings > My device > LED indicator and enable "Notifications" in order for
this application to work. If you use a device from different manufacturer, play around with the
LED settings on your device before reporting that it does not work.

4. Why is email notification LED not working on my device?

Try switching to “Alternating Mode”.

5. Why are Facebook / Facebook Messenger / Twitter / WhatsApp / BBM / Line / GO SMS
Pro / Handcent SMS / chomp SMS/ K-9 Mail notification not showing the LED color that I
have set in Light Manager?
You must turn off LED notification in that application for Light Manager to take control.

LED”.
For Facebook Messenger:
Messenger > Settings > Notifications & Sounds > Light. Untick the box for “Light”.

6. Why is Light Manager not working after I installed the latest update? It was working
nicely on the previous version.
Try restarting your device. If the problem still persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling Light
Manager.

7. Why are false notifications or other weird things happening on my device? A false
notification happened randomly but I did not get any notification message in the
notification bar.
Try restarting your device. If the problem still persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling Light
Manager. You must clear cache and data while uninstalling. If you are using normal mode and
the false notification LED is from Hangouts, you need to enable “Allow Recreate Notification” to
fix this problem.

8. Why is the LED light off when screen is on? Why does the LED only light up when the
screen is off?
Some devices have this limitation by the manufacturer.

9. Why is ROOT required for Android 4.1 and 4.2 Jelly Bean but not for Android 4.0 ICS or
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean?
ROOT is required for 3rd party apps LED notifications such as Email, Facebook, Twitter etc
because Google tightened the security on Android 4.1 and 4.2. Therefore, you need to have a
rooted device, grant permission to Light Manager to detect notification for 3rd party apps. After
you have granted permission, you need to restart Light Manager for changes to take effect.
Note: ROOT is not required from Android 4.3 onwards. However you need to enable notification
access for Light Manager at Setting > Security > Notification access > Light Manager. For
certain devices, you need to reboot the device for notification access to take effect.

10. How do I ROOT my device?

Each device has its own procedure to ROOT it. I will not be able to list the thousands of devices
out there on how to root it. Google search how to root your device.

11. What are differences between Normal Mode, Alternating Mode and Screen Mode?
Normal Mode:
- Only LED color for the first notification will flash.
- Light Manager will not take full control of LED notifications. Therefore, LED notifications for
other apps will still function as usual.
- Consumes less battery.
- Auto-cancel of LED notification is not available.
- You cannot add other 3rd party apps. From android 4.3 onwards, you can add other 3rd party
apps but it might or might not work depending on the application if it allows turning off its own
notification LED.
- Will not cause wakelock.

Alternating Mode:
- LED colors will flash alternately when multiple notifications are received.
- Light Manager will take full control of the LED notifications. Therefore, other 3rd party apps not
supported by Light Manager will not generate their own LED notifications.
- Consumes more battery.
- Auto-cancel of LED notification is available.
- You can add any 3rd party app.
- May cause wakelock.

Screen Mode:
- It uses device’s screen to show notification alerts instead of notification LED. Suitable for
devices that do not have a physical notification LED.
- It consumes most battery since display is a battery drainer
- Only available from Android 4.3 and above

12. On what condition will the LED notification be cancelled?

LED notification will be cancelled when the corresponding application is entered or exited. You
must stay on the application for at least 1 second. Opening and closing an application too fast
may not cancel the LED notification. Pressing the “Clear All” button in the drop-down notification
bar will cancel all LED notifications. In Android 4.2 and below, swiping left or right on a
notification in the drop-down notification bar cannot cancel the LED notification. From Android
4.3 onwards, swiping off to cancel an app’s LED notification is supported.

13. In Alternating Mode, I have added a 3rd party app into my notification list but it does
not generate an LED notification.
There are tons of applications for Android, and not all applications are compatible with Light
Manager. If the app turns the screen on and shows its popup message when the notification is
received, it might not work. Light Manager considers the popup message as the app’s being
launched, thus cancelling the LED notification. Try disabling the popup message or setting the
3rd party app to not turn on the screen for its popup notifications.

14. I am using custom kernel and 3rd party apps LED notifications are not working.
Make sure Android logger is enabled. Refer to the developer of your kernel for how to enable it.

15. How is the battery consumption of Light Manager? How do I get battery consumption
as low as possible.
It depends on the settings in Light Manager. If you use “Normal Mode” with no 3rd party apps
LED notifications enabled, battery consumption will be the lowest possible. Battery consumption
tests have been done with Samsung Galaxy SIII, it is around 0.1%~0.2% with the above
settings. In “Alternating Mode”, it consumes battery every time the LED color changes. So do
not let your device keep on changing LED color for a long time. Set it to auto-cancel LED
notifications after a certain period of time or set a longer interval of change.

16. I would like to disable some notifications from blinking when notification is received
but it still blinks even when I disable it in Light Manager.
Enabling a notification in Light Manager means that Light Manager will control the LED
notification for that application. Disabling that notification means that Light Manager does not
control it, allowing the app controlling the default notification LED to take control. However there
is a workaround for this. Enable that notification in Light Manager and set the hex color code to
black (#000000 or #000001). It generates a completely unlit LED. It will appear as though it is
not generating an LED notification but in fact it is generating black color LED notification.

17. Why do I get false LED notification or the default Gmail LED notification when using
Gmail LED notification with Light Manager?
If you are using Gmail Priority Inbox, enable “Use Priority Inbox” in Light Manager under “Gmail”
section. Otherwise, keep this option disabled.

18. Why is SMS LED notification not working in MIUI ROM?

By default, the MIUI messaging app has highest priority. Disable the priority by going into
Messaging > Settings > Other > Advanced Settings and disable “System MMS app priority”. You
may need to disable screen-wake as well, since some MIUI ROM will cancel any LED
notification when the screen turns on.

19. Why is the LED notification blinking when I have set the flash rate to “None”?
Go to Light Manager > Advanced Settings > LED Function > Static LED and play around with
the settings. For example, Samsung Galaxy Nexus should use “Option 3”.

20. Why is Light Manager working inconsistently? Sometimes it works but sometimes
not.
Perhaps your device memory usage was too high and Light Manager’s background process
was being killed off frequently. Although the background process will be restarted automatically
after being killed, any notification during the restarting period will not be handled by Light
Manager. In order to solve this, go to Light Manager > Advanced Settings > Show Notification
Icon and enable it to prevent Light Manager background process from being killed.

21. Why is LED notification for SMS/MMS not cancelled even I have read it?
If you are using 3rd party messaging app, you have to disable “SMS” and “MMS” notification
LED in Light Manager. Then add your 3rd party messaging app into notification list of Light
Manager, enable it and configure your settings. “SMS” and “MMS” are meant for Android stock
messaging app.

22. In normal mode, I always get LED notification from Hangouts even though there is no
message received.
Go to Light Manager > Hangouts > Allow Recreate Notification and enable it to fix false LED
notification from Hangouts. Else you can change to alternating mode where this issue will not
happen.

23. Why is Light Manager not working in “Priority” and “None” mode on Android 5.0?
No LED notification can be turned on in “None” mode. However it is possible in “Priority” mode
by enabling the setting in Settings > Sound & notification > App notifications > Light Manager >
Priority.
24. In alternating mode, why is Light Manager not generating any LED notification when
multiple notifications are received on my Samsung Galaxy S7?
The LED generation process is slower on Samsung Galaxy S7. Make sure “Flash Rate” is faster
than or equal to “Interval Of Change”, else no LED will be generated because the LED color will
alternate before the LED light is being generated.
