AIM: Installation of LT Spice and SCILAB on PC.

APPARATUS: PC with active Internet connection

THEORY:

Open source software is software in which the source code used to create the program is
freely available for the public to view, edit, and redistribute. E.g. MATLAB, LTspice, etc.
Open source licenses affect the way people can use, study, modify, and distribute software. In
general, open source licenses grant computer users permission to use open source software
for any purpose they wish.
1. LT Spice
LTspice is freeware computer software implementing a SPICE (Simulation Program with
Integrated Circuit Emphasis) simulator of electronic circuits, produced by semiconductor
manufacturer Linear Technology (LTC), now part of Analog Devices. Linear
Technology provides useful and free design simulation tools as well as device models. Circuit
simulations based on transient, AC, noise and DC analysis can be plotted as well as Fourier
analysis. Heat dissipation of components can be calculated, and efficiency reports can also be
generated. LT Spice is used within LTC, and by many users in fields including radio
frequency electronics, power electronics, digital electronics, and other disciplines. LT Spice
does not generate printed circuit board (PCB) layouts, but netlists can be imported into layout
programs. While LT Spice does support simple logic gate simulation, it is not designed
specifically for simulating logic circuits.

2. SCILAB
SCILAB is free and open source software and is released as open source under the
CeCILL license and is available for download free of charge. Scilab is available under
GNU/Linux, Mac OS X and Windows XP/Vista/7/8. It is a high-level, numerically oriented
programming language. The language provides an interpreted programming environment,
with matrices as the main data type. By using matrix-based computation, dynamic typing, and
automatic memory management, many numerical problems may be expressed in a reduced
number of code lines, as compared to similar solutions using traditional languages, such as
Fortran, C, or C++. This allows users to rapidly construct models for a range of mathematical
problems. While the language provides simple matrix operations such as multiplication, the
Scilab package also provides a library of high-level operations such as correlation and
complex multidimensional arithmetic. The software can be used for signal processing,
statistical analysis, image enhancement, fluid dynamics simulations, and numerical
optimization.

“Install Now”.
● Finally, “LTspice has been successfully installed” dialog is displayed and click “OK”
to finish.
● LTspice is now ready to use.

2. Steps to install SCILAB

● Download SCILAB installer from SCILAB official website.
● Click on the setup file to begin its installation.
● Agree “License Agreement and Disclaimer”, click “Accept”.
● After clicking “Accept”, you can install LTspice on your computer by clicking
“Install Now”.
