PRESS RELEASE
DATE: MARCH 1, 2019
Atthe minimum, any thorough investigation should include gathering all videos available
as well a speaking withall of the available witnesses to ascertain if any wrongdoing
‘occurred. It appears fom Sheriff Boone’s press conference statement that his office
looked at one video and did not interview any of the eyewitnesses (who appeared atthe
inital press conference with the National Action Network) in reaching his conclusion,
There is no true justice or accountability where you reach a conclusion without getting all
accounts on a particular situation,
‘Many in te black community are hesitant to interact with police officers out of fea that
they could be vitimizeé as Tyler was in this case. Sherif Boone's conclusion of no
‘wrongdoing will only inzease the anxiety within the black community. We all heard
‘Tyler screaming, “I can’t breathe” (much like Eric Gamer did before his untimely death
in New York from a pol ce chokehold)! We al saw Tyler's feet Maing in the air a the
anresting oflicer pressed his entire body on him while bending his neck back on the
‘ground! Yet, Sheriff Boone states that the officer was “holding his head up" to infer that
the officer was attempting to prevent harm dusing ths interaction, We also have
statements from two eyewitnesses that Tyler was handeufTed prior fo being slammed to
the ground by the police officer. Yet, Sheri Boone states thatthe officer took Tyler to
the ground for his safety.
‘Unfortunately, much of Sheriff Boone's press conference statements were self-serving
nd not based on the facs as seen in the video. I challenge everyone to look at the video.
Listen to Tyler's ery fore Listen to him grasping for air! Listen tothe trauma in the
female eyewitness’ voice as she is describing what she is seeing! This ease is disturbing
‘because even though wehave actual video and eyewitness accounts itis still not enough
for this Sherif to justify wrongdoing! I have many dear fiends in law enforcement and I
am not inditing all of them for the acts ofthis particular officer; however, there joa
‘rowing sentiment inthe black community that police officers will stick together no
Imatier what, Sheriff Boone’s conclusion and comments speak volumes to that sad
perception so we are requesting thatthe Attomey General's Office investigate this case to
Aetermine if eriminal charges are appropriate. [am hopeful that justice will prevail for
‘Tyler once there isa thorough investigation inthis matter. Not only does Tyler deserve
