Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I could address UDL principles by allowing the students to choose between multiple
options for their research. I will give them the freedom to choose their specific sport so
that they are interested and engaged because it is a sport they value and enjoy. I will
also give them the freedom of creating their own nearpod presentation. I would provide
them multiple examples of what I intended them to do. I would create a sample nearpod
presentation so that no matter what they chose they would have something to refer to.

Lesson idea implementation:
I will introduce the topic by explaining the project. Students are to choose a sport they
enjoy, for example baseball, and then research a muscle group that is important in
playing that sport. For example the obliques are important in baseball, and they will then
research why that is the case. After they research why they are important they will
research a specific exercise that they can do to strengthen the obliques and how to
perform it. They will then create a nearpod interactive presentation to share the
information they found (sport, muscle group, why, and exercise). They will have 3 nights
to complete it. On the due date they will take turns presenting their information and then
leading the class in performing their chosen exercise.
They will be assessed on their final product, their presentation, and their knowledge on
the correct form of the exercise. Having the students lead the class in an exercise will
extend student learning because not only will they have to know correct form but they will
have to teach and correct others on that knowledge. To conclude the lesson the students
will be given a small quiz on the information presented that they should have learned
from their classmates.

Reflective Practice:
I think that this activity could greatly increase student learning because each individual
will now have an exercise they can perform to increase their sport performance. They will
also have a deeper understanding of correct form and how the exercise can impact their
bodies. To further extend this lesson I could create an assignment for them where
everyday for 4 weeks they must perform the exercise at least once a day (probably in
class). They would record their starting ability (for example how many reps they could
do) and then at the end of the 4 weeks how far they progressed. Technology could be
used to assess the starting/fina ability (for example heart rate monitor, stop watch, etc.)
or they could create another presentation on the transformation that took place in their
bodies.
